Dell Latitude D620, Can't Capture Audio

Dell Latitude D620
Windows Vista Business
Roxio Creator Premier Version: 10.2.606
Video: X10 VA12A
Audio: SigmaTel High Definition Audio
On video capture no problem.
On audio, can't capture sound. When I choose "Options", "Device" doesn't show the SigmaTel (actually no choice available) and under "Input" I can't choose "Line In" (actually no choice available).
Notebook shows that audio is coming in through the "Line In"/"Microphone Jack" and SigmaTel is set to to "Line In".
So I can capture an AVI/MPEG but, no sound.

What application are you using in your Dell OEM Premier Version?.

That is the program. Now what is the application? Once you open whatever you are opening, look to the upper left and tell us what the application is named or just tell us what you are clicking on to open the application..
What device are you using to capture the video and are you using the same device to capture the audio?

You lost me.
To me, there is NO difference between calling Roxio Premier 10.2 an "application" or a "program."
I already also stated the video capture device is the X10 VA12A. I can capture video with no problem but there is NO audio.
I went on and stated "On audio, can't capture sound. When I choose "Options", "Device" doesn't show the SigmaTel (actually no choice available) and under "Input" I can't choose "Line In" (actually no choice available)."
I just installed it on my my desktop (test only as I do NOT have two licenses and I intend to uninstall Tonight) which is a home-built ASUS system with Windows XP Professional.
Video: ATI Wonder VE
Audio: CMI8738/C3DX
Now in THIS PC when I go to "Options" I have for Device "C-Media" and Input "Line In".
The first attached JPEG is for the ASUS PC.
The second attached JPEG is for the Dell Latitude. It shows NO audio device and I can't select anything either.
I swapped my Vista Business hard disk for a Windows XP Pro. hard disk and checked Roxio again. Under WinXP Pro SP3 I got the SAME results as shown in the second attached JPEG.

Rather than ranting, why did you just say you were using "Media Import"? That is the application or what ever you want to call it.
That X10 VA12A device must have drivers compatible with the operating system, the program, the application, and with your audio device. Apparently the audio driver for that device is not.
In the first image, you are capturing with the ATI device; in the second, that other thing. That is why you are getting two different displays. Go to X10 and see if they have other drivers. If not, then that device will not work.
Have you tried capturing via Windows Movie Maker? That sometimes works when others do not.
Please, not rants about Roxio not having drivers for every device out here. Since you paid little or nothing for the Dell OEM, they are responsible for how the program works or doesn't work. Go there for help because that is the licensing agreement between Dell and Roxio.
BTW, your program is an OEM version of a very old Roxio program. They did have a list of compatible devices here. Again, Dell may have modified the program so the list may not be accurate.

A picture is worth a thousand words. "Media Import" is sub-component or sub-program of of Roxio Premier v10.2.
BOTH the Windows XP and Vista/32 drivers are the latest off the Dell Support web site. I manage hundreds of Latitude notebooks.
I must conclude the problem is is with the Roxio software and the SigmaTel chip-set.
The test on the ASUS was just that, a test. I can't have it installed on both the ASUS and on the Latitude as that would be a license violation and I have to uninstall it.
Why should i "Go to X10 and see if they have other drivers."
That that's the VIDEO capture device and I noted I have no problem recording video.
It is AUDIO that I have the problem with.
You mention v10 is OLD. However I think you'll find the Latitude D620 and Roxio v10.x are in the same date range.
There is a communication problem in this thread and I am sorry that I have not been able to communicate the problem thoroughly.

Also, regarding the capture device - have you tried for updated drifvers for that?
Please read the following article on it
First, make sure the VA12A is connected to a USB 2.0 port. It will not work in a USB 1.1 port. If you still get an error, disconnect the VA12A then run this software:
http://software.x10..../x10drivers.exe
About three-quarters of the way through the install process, you will be prompted to plug the VA11A+ back in; plug it into a different USB port than the one it was originally tried in.
If the driver still does not come up, check your Device Manager. To get there, go into Start, and then Settings, and click on Control Panel. Open up System Control Panel (in the Performance and Maintenance category). Go to the Hardware Tab and click on the Device Manager button. Next, look for the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers category. If you see "X10 VA12A Video Capture" with an exclamation point, right-click on it and select Update Driver. If it asks you to connect to Microsoft, select "No, not at this time." then click Next. Next, choose to "Install from a list or a specific location." Check "Include this location in the search" then click Browse. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\x10\DriverInstall\VA12A Video Capture\, then go into the appropriate folder for your version of Windows- use Vista32 or Vista64 for 7. Click OK, then Next. Windows will install the drivers.

I guess your insistence of using terms that you want to use rather than the common terms on this forum is causing frustration. I did ask you what your were clicking on and/or what application telling you that the applicastion name is in the upper left of the window. Re-read post #4.
I do not believe that I said that the X10 was old; just that you may need to update drivers.

The problem manifests itself ONLY with Audio and happens within BOTH Windows XP Professional SP3 and Windows Vista business SP2 on the Dell Latitude D620 notebook.
The Dell Latitude D620 notebook has the SigmatTel High Definition Audio chip-set. Through its built-in software I can see the audio coming in and set the audio level. However, as seen in the first captured JPEG, (of the prior post) the device does NOT show up when I choose Options from within the Roxio Media Import sub-component.
This is contrasted when compared to the 2cnd posted JPEG where the Roxio Premier v10.2 is installed on my ASUS desktop PC where is sees the C-Media audio device using the Options from within the Roxio Media Import sub-component

You didn't answer my question. If you are capturing a "movie", are you getting both the audio and the video? Yes or no.
Are you using the device to try to capture audio only? Yes or no.
The reason I asked is that one of the devices that Roxio sold would capture video with the audio but would not capture audio only. For capture devices, there is often one driver for the video and one for the audio. Look in Windows Device Manager. In more than one case, the device must show up in two locations - one for audio and one for video. This is true for Roxio devices and Pinnacle devices.

For this "situation", I am capturing the output of a VCR VHS tape. Audio to the notebook's LineIn and Video to the X10 video capture device. I have the proper RCA and subminature stereo phono plug to interconnect the Sony VCR (video and audio output: RCA) to the notebook (video input: RCA, Audio input: subminature phono).
Thus it is dependent upon the drivers for the X10 being installed and the drivers for the SigmaTel being installed. They are installed, are the latest versions, and are working properly from an OS perspective. This is under BOTH Windows XP Professional SP3 and Windows Vista Business SP2 on the Dell Latitude D620 notebook. Swapping OS' is done by swapping the internal SATA hard disk.
**NOTE: I had NO problem capturing the output of said VCR VHS (audio and video) on my ASUS desktop. However, the software has been subsequently removed from said desktop PC to not violate the Roxio license.
Thank you for the time and assistance I have been provided with thus far.

The fact that ONE computer works (using c-media audio) and a second doesn't (using sigmatel) shows that the program itself works - but the audio isn't working on the laptop. The logical comclusion is the problem lies in the audio on the laptop (otherwise the same fault would occur in both machines - which you have said isn't the case)

Perhaps your other computer already has the required codecs installed.
I found a newer (?) driver for the audio chip than the one you may have. It is here. I don't think that is the issue though.

Is that from the video you captured with the laptop? If so, the audio is there. What happens if you play it with Windows Media Player? If it plays then it might be that the audio codec in the OEM software doesn't allow it to be played/edited in VideoWave or other application (sub-profgram).

Are we sure that the audio device has been enabled in the Control Panel?
Remember in Vista things have to be enabled in Control Panel before they will work at times.
Could be the Line In is just disabled and it's as simple as enabling it to get it to show up.
Just because you can play sound doesn't mean you can record it.Both have to be enabled in the Control Panel.
