I realize this is not about Roxio 2010, but I know nowhere else to turn.

I have been using Roxio 7 for many years in two separate computers, both with the XP operating system, and like the program very much.

One of the PC’s is not hooked to the internet and used for photo business only.  I was having a few minor, what I thought were glitches with the Roxio 7 Program, so I thought I’d just remove it and reload it again, which I have done several times in the past with no problems whatsoever.

Now, after re-loading it over and over again, the Drag-to-Disc icon will NOT show up on the monitor, and when I click it in the main program, it says there is a “component” missing, so to re-load Drag-to-Disc.  I have no idea what component it could be talking about, and no matter what I do, it will not work.

Also, even worse, after I have worked for hours and hours on a slideshow, which I’ve done many times in the past, and I go to burn a DVD of the show, the window that pops up will NOT allow me to pick the drive containing the blank DVD.  It’s all grayed out, so I cannot make the DVD.  And, yet, the burn button is red even if I have no DVD in the tray or not, which I do not remember happening in the past.

Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciate, because it is quit frustrating to say the least.

Thanks.

Have you updated SP3 or IE or WMP lately?   Tose kill EMC 7.  You have to roll back IE and WMP.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thanks, but I have NO idea what you're talking about.  Would you be kind enough to me more specific?

Thanks.

"If you have Windows XP, with IE 6 and WMP 9, or below, EMC 7/7.5 will work.

If you have Windows XP, with IE 7 or 8, or if you have WMP 10, or above, YOU broke EMC 7/7.5, by allowing the new IE and WMP to install on your computer.

If you installed Vista, you killed your EMC 7/7.5.

If you installed Windows 7, you killed your EMC 7/7.5."

The above is from grandpabruce.

SP3 has the updated IE and WMP.

Is that clearer?  That is the first thing that comes to mind if people say EMC 7/7.5 no longer works.

You say that the computer is not connected to the Internet but that didn't say that you had not updated the program or instaloled another program on it.

I would suggest that you create a restore point,  remove EMC 7/7.5 and all other Roxio and Sonic programs using Revo Uninstaller (free) in the Moderate Mode , clean up and defrag your computer and then reinstall what you need.

Q: Is IE7 included in SP3?
A: No IE7 is NOT included as part of SP3.  however, you should be aware that if you have IE7 Installed at the time  SP3 is applied, you will not be able to revert to IE6 without  uninstalling SP3 first.

Q: Is Windows Media Player 10/11 included in SP3?
A: No WMP11 is NOT included as part of SP3.  If you slipstream SP3 into a XP GOLD/SP0/RTM Source, you will have  WMP9. you can get WMP11 through WU/MU but WMP10 will not be offered as  an option. If you want WMP10, you can get it here.

Thanks for the clarifications.

We'll find out if and when George comes back and ansers the questions.

I thank you guys, and really appreciate your help.  And, I'm sorry, but you are WAAAAAAAAAAAY over my head.  I am NOT a computer expert, so the letters and abbreviations you are using are meaningless to me.

The PC the program has always been in has NEVER been hooked up to the internet.  It is obvious something has changed, but I have no idea what.

Without Roxio, I have a real  problem, because now I cannot copy my photographs onto DVDs any longer, and that I "must" be able to do.  After I've shot images, I have always transferred them to the hard drive, edited them, then copied them onto DVD discs.  Now, I can't do that.

If I can't resolve this, the PC goes over the nearest cliff.....;)

Thanks again.

You took away all the easy answers since the computer has never been connected to the internet.

How recently did the problem occur?  You can check Windows to see if you have system restore turned on.  If so, you can go nack to an earlier time.  It should not effect your files.

Try using Creator Classic to burn the images to a disc just to see if it works.  What kind of disc are you using and what manufacturer?  Does Windows see your burner?  Perhaps the burner is going bad or thre is some screw up in the Windows registry.

BTW - (By the way)
IE = Internet Explorer
WMP - Microsoft Windows Media Player
SP = service pack  (updates for Windows)

If all else fails, uninstall all Roxio and Sonic programs using Revo Uninstaller in the Moderate Mode (link) and then re-install it.

Thank you for your kindness in trying to help.  I, at least, understand the abbreviations now.

After removing and re-installing the Roxio 7 program several times again, it finally took, and now seems to work OK.  Don't ask me what went wrong, 'cause I have no idea.

Isn't it ironic how when you have problems they seem to come in groups rather than just one at a time so you can deal with them?  The point is, that I now have a new problem with that same computer.  I realize this is not Roxio, but you seem to be an expert, so here goes.

I removed my Adobe Photoshop 7 because of minor problems with it too (which I've done before) and now it will NOT re-install.  No matter what I do (click on install, open it and click on set-up, etc) it will not "continue" and go through the steps required to install it.

I'm also having a problem with my Roxio in another PC that "is" hooked up to the internet.  It seems to work fine, but when I go to save a slideshow on a DVD, the DVD Builder part will not work and freezes up.  In fact, I can't even get rid of it unless I restart the computer.

Problems, problems, problems !!  What can I say?

Are you getting any error messages when you try to re-install PhotoShop?  Go to the Internet and Goggle for Microsoft Installer Clean UP Utility (MSICUU). See if PhotoShop 7 is listed when you open that Utility.  If so, uninstall it.  Try installing it again.

Again are you getting any error messages? What are you using to create the slide show?  How long are you waiting?

With Roxio DVD Builder the only message I get is this one (see attachment).

I'll let you know if the installer works.

Thanks again.
