Created project in DVD Builder but halfway through encoding/burning it vanishes off the screen (like a ghost)and takes me back to the desktop.  I try to go back in and open project again but it says it's being used by another person. So I then have to restart my computer.

Each time I restart computer I can get in and open project again but just doesn't want to burn to DVD.  Tried saving to ISO file but again does same thing, without warning it vanishes and takes me back to the desktop.

Any suggestions.

Using Windows XP, SP2, and have already rolled back to Internet Exp0lorer 6 and Windows Media Player 9.

You may have to re-install EMC 7.5 (it's possible IE7 has damaged it). You could try a repair install first and see if that works
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

OK did as you suggested 'Uninstall the software, and reinstall, after a reboot. Whilst uninstall this error message came up 'there is a probem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Please contact support personel or package vendor.'  I clicked on 'OK' and right at the end got another error message 'Fatal error during installation'.

I turned restarted the computer and put the disk in to Re-install EMC.7 and got this message 'unable to find a certificate file' and then another message 'there is a problem authenticating your version. Please make sure your system is set to the current date.  Please help me!

Try this http://kb.roxio.com/...S=set-locale=en

Sorry but I still need HELP!

Printed off link above and started going through the steps - thanks for that.

Step 1 - Msconfig - OK

Step 2 - Wouldn't let remove any Roxio Prgorams - GOT SAME ERROR MESSAGE AS BEFORE (above)

Step 3 - Show hidden files - OK

Step 4 - Delete Folders

- C:\Program Files\Roxio - error message "Cannot delete Shellex.dll - Access is denied"
- C:\Program Files\Sonic - OK
- Next two were OK
- C:\Docs & Setting\All Users\Application Data\Roxio - no Roxio folder showing
- C:\Docs & Setting\All Users\Application Data\Sonic - no Roxio folder showing

Empty recycle bin - OK

Step 5 - Go into browser and clear cookies and browsing history - wasn't too sure where to locate them, when I clicked on tools there was not option window?

Step 6 - Haven't done yet wasn't sure whether to carry on before sorting out above.

Sorry but any HELP would be appreciated.

Cheers

Try starting in safe more or, alternatively, use task manager to shut down any running libraries and then try deleting any roxio items

So sorry but I am not a computer savy so need a bit more easy steps.  You said

Try starting in safe more or, alternatively, use task manager to shut down any running libraries and then try deleting any roxio items

In Task Manager I went into applications tab and there was nothing there, so I went into Process Tab and there were a big list of files, under USER NAME they varied from Network Service, System, Local Service, Lesley and the CPU was 00 except for the last one which was System Idel Process and the CPU was 99 - do I delete ANY of these?

Tried to go back to C:\Pgroam Files\Roxio and it said 'unable to find a certificate file - I hit OK and then a message came up could not open the cert file reading dll - I hit OK and the machine froze up so I had to close down under task manager. You didn't answer my question 5 about going into browser and clearing out cookes, how do I get to browser?  Thanks!

You don't delete files in task manager - you only stop them running until a reboot.

However, if you aren't sure how, then boot in safe mode (hold down F4 before windows loads) and then delete the file
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

If you are still having problems, download and useRevo Uninstaller in the Moderate Mode (free -link).The Roxio program may or may not be listed since it is about halfway installed =and halfway not installed.

If you can find it in Revo Uninstaller, Search for Microsoft Installer Clean Up utility (MSICUU), read the warnings and delete anything you see that is Roxio or Sonic and DirectXInstall Service.

Reboot, trun of your anti-virus, do thisand then reinstall.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

If you are uninstalling EMC 7.5 using Revo, you should not get that message.  Did you mean to say that you tried to reinstall and got that message?

Set  up a new administrator account for Windows.  Try installing to that account.  Go to to Microsoft to get the instructions

Did you set your computer to the current date (today).

You said the original message said drive was in use by another person. Is this really what it said (Link)?

I'm afraid that your updates to WMP and IE have really screwed things up.  At this point, I do not have any other solutions except for starting from scratch with formatting your hard drive and installing everything again.

Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

You said 'format your hard drive and installing everything again' to do this don't you need to have the windows disc to reinstall which I don't have - they don't give them to you anymore so how do I go about formatting my hard drive?

There should be a restore (to factory settings)partition on your hard drive; read the information that came with your computer.  Remember that you will be starting from scratch after the format and will have to reinstall all the programs you now have.  It will wipe your files also so you need to back up everything to an external hard drive.  Don't forget your e-mail and those valuable e-mail addresses.

Btw, I asked a friend about your problem and, although he is much better in diagnosing problems like you are having, had no idea what is going on with your computer.

Same as above.  Did you find a restore disc or partition?

The only other thing is to google for "Microsoft Installer Clean Up Utility" (no longer supported by Microsoft) and remove anything Roxio, Sonic or DirectX Installer Service.  No guarantees that it will be any better than the above.
