I have installed a hard drive from an old laptop into the compartment and also installed the software onto a new laptop. When I attach the USB cable from the compartment to the new laptop, it does not recognize anything being plugged into the USB. I am using Windows7 on the new system and Vista on the previous one. Can anyone help me?

Do you have any other USB drives (flash drive, external drive) that you could try?  Other USB devices (web cam, etc.)?  If nothing is being recognized, then you may have a bad USB port.

Now, when you say, "compartment", does that mean, "external case"?  Have you applied power to the case before (or after) plugging in the USB cable?

Windows 7, or Vista should be quite capable of recognizing a newly plugged in USB device, but that still depends on the USB port working correctly.

Also, does this have anything to do with a Roxio product?  If so, how?
