It's been along time since I've had to use this forum, but things happen and here I am again :(

I have EMC 8 installed and it worked fine until recently. I cannot open the VideoWave portion of the program (every thing not related to "video" works fine). I get an error message that says, "Unable to setup video objects". I read a post and several of the responses related to this and the solutions (changing a decimal point and a comma, etc.) don't work.

I have attempted to uninstall the EMC suite so I could reinstall it, but that doesn't work.... I get a message that says, "Fatal Error During Installation" (this happens using the Add/Remove programs).

I tried to do a complete reinstall (and a repair) from the disk, but nothing happens.

I then started to delete all of the folders I could find that were related to Roxio/Sonic and I got an "Access Denied" message that was associated with "Shellex.dll" and couldn't go any farther, so I restored all of the deleted folders from the recycle bin, and well, here I am!

I do not use any other video type programs such as Adobe Premier Elements, etc. so there isn't a conflict with another program that I'm aware of.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem, short of formatting the drive and reinstalling the OS?

Thanks in advance...... Grayghost.

Try using the free program Unlocker.  It should allow you to get rid of all of the junk, so you can install again.

You can find Unlocker, here:

http://ccollomb.free...ocker/#download

Also, you might want to run a virus check.

Hey Grandpabruce......

Nice to know that you're still around and helping people! The last (and only) time I needed help it was you that solved my problem..... thanks again for that!

At one time I had the 'Unlocker' program and for whatever reason, it was removed and I couldn't remember the name of it, so thanks for that! I'll have to wait until the weekend to see if it works and I'll let you know.

As per your suggestion of running an A/V scan, that was done before I posted. I use the follwing security scanners and none of them found anything...... Avira A/V (free), Malewarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot and Microsoft's OneCare Safety Scanner.

Thanks again for the reply and I'll post as soon as I try 'Unlocker'.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Hey Grandpabruce,

I finally managed to get the time to try the unlocker..... it didn't work.

However, problem solved... I reinstalled the OS (a drastic measure I know) and things are working (for now!). ;)

Thanks for the 'Unlocker' suggestion and taking the time to respond, I appreciate that.

Hopefully I won't have to return here anytime soon, at least with a problem! :)

You're welcome, even though it did not help.  Sometimes I wish something would go south so that I had to format my hard drive and reinstall the OS.  I am long overdue. :)

Grandpabruce...... Be careful what you wish for! :o

Aside from using "user friendly" programs, reinstalling the OS is really the only thing I know how to do... an expertise I shouldn't have had to aquire! :(  I had some small issues that didn't require this last format, but doing it (and solving 2 problems w/one click... the digital version of killing 2 birds w/one stone) seemed faster than going back and forth here and trying many different things. Don't take that as knock against your abilities, from what I've seen in the forum, you're a pretty smart cookie about this stuff and I'm glad you're out here to help us "user friendly" souls! Christmas is right around the corner and with many slideshows to make, time isn't on my side!

Hopefully I won't have to return here, so.......... Happy Holidays to you and yours and the rest of the community!  :)
