HELP! My hard drive crashed, so I replaced it with an identical one and loaded all original software (XP Home SP3). I loaded Easy Media Creator 10 Suite; Version: 10.1.226; Build: 112B26A, R03.

I have a Yamaha CRW8824E CD Burner and an HP DVD Writer 1040d USB Device.

When I boot up, I get a window saying, “CD Recording Software will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading.”  Both of these will not work. Only my Samsung CD-ROM SC-152L (52X) works, but it is a player/reader only.

When I go to Device Manager, it shows the “bad” driver for both recorders as “cdr4_2k.sys”.  If I remove this driver then none of the 3 devices work!

I have searched the internet for a solution but no matter how I Google the problem, all I get is tons of advertisements for ‘Driver Updating Software’.

Everything worked GREAT before the hard drive crash, so I know there must be a solution to this critical problem.

Can anyone help me with this extremely frustrating situation?
Thank you!  Calyps0

Hello,

Would you please go back to that display for one of your drives, and highlight the cdr4_2k.sys driver to get the driver file details for it? [your screens show only the details for storprop.dll]

I've just been digging round inside my EMC Version 10.1 in XP, and neither Version 10.0 nor 10.1, nor XP-SP3 have that file. They all have cdr4_xp.sys so I'm wondering where your cdr4_2k.sys has come from.

Well, [or should that be "Well!!"] This has got me quite puzzled and I've had to do a lot of digging.

Somehow or other you have a really, really old NT driver in there. It's version 2.5, and it's from way back in 2000 - it's 10 years old. My one from ECDC 3.5 is copyrighted 2000-2001. Where in heck did yours come from?
Would you check your CDRALW2K.sys file too please, and see what version and date it is?

I think we're going to have to remove the old cdr4_2k.sys file from the driver lineup, and replace it with a modern cdr4_xp.sys. I'll try and work out the best way to do that while I'm waiting for you to tell me the good news about your cdralw2k.sys file.

Regards,
Brendon
