I just updated my computer and re-installed EMC9.  Everything seems to work, but if I try and create a data CD using creator classic, it keeps telling me to insert a blank CD even though there is one in there.  If I put in a blank DVD, then it works. I think my hardware is
ok, because I can use Windows XP explorer to copy and paste and write the same file to the same CD in the same drive.  I thought that I had downloaded a service pack for EMC9, but that was a while ago and there are no service packs for EMC9. There is an upgrade 9.1, but does
that contain fixes like the service packs or is that just for windows vista support ? I saw there was a fix for when your optical drives
are missing (a new PX engine), but I can see my drives and burn to DVD, just not CD.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Woody

If your 'updates' included IE7 or 8 and/or Media Player 10 or higher, you have knocked out EMC9

Gi7omy,
My upgrade was a new motherboard/video card. I did a clean install of XP and EMC9 with what was there before. Don't think I downloaded
any windows fixes, so I think what I had on the win xp install CD (SP2) is what is on there. I'll check to see what version of IE and Media
player is on the machine. Just wasn't sure if going to 9.1 would fix bugs or was just support for Vista (which I'm not running)
Thanks, Woody

Just re-reading your original post and I missed the bit where you say it works for DVDs and not for CDs

There is a possibility the CD laser is out of action (the drive uses two lasers - one DVD and one CD)

Can you get windows to write to the drive direvctly? (use a RW disc if you have one). If that also fails, then the probability is you have a faulty drive
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Gi7omy,
Yep, If I use windows explorer cut and paste to the drive with a CD in it, it works fine. So I think my hardware and the CD are fine.
My guess is Creator Classic has a bug in it. I don't remember having this problem before and I think I put a service pack on it when
I installed it years ago. But there are no service packs around anymore only the 9.1 upgrade. Thanks, Woody

I'd go for the update to 9.1 to be honest. It can't make things any worse really

Just trying to recollect, but when you're adding files to the Creator Classic layout, don't you also select the type of disc you want to use?  At the bottom?  Do you have a DVD disc selected?  If so, then that's what it's going to expect.  Make sure you have a CD-R selected as your target disc before clicking the Burn button.

Hope that helps.
