I am new to Roxio 8. So, far I have not found a way to combine audio tracks into one like I was able to do in previous versions of Sound Editor.

Haven't tried this myself but the Help says:
To join multiple audio clips:
In the Mix Editor, select the audio clips that you want to join.
On the Mix Editor toolbar, click Join Clips.
The audio clips appear connected on the same layer in the Mix Editor.

You need to first import all the tracks you want to combine then in the Mix Editor, hold the control key down and highlight the tracks you want to join.

You should see this screen when you open Sound Editor. I have underlined the Mix Editor, in red.

What is the difference between the Mix Editor and the Clip Editor? This Sound Editor page is somewhat confusing... :)

Mix Editor is used to edit several clips that you have opened at the same time. You can combine those clips into a single clip, using the lower portion of the screen.

The clip editor is for editing the clips, up above, meaning cutting out silence between the clips, adding silence between the clips, or whatever else you want to do to the clip. You do all of this editing in the upper portion of your screen, not the bottom portion where you combined the clips into a single clip.

Very simply, one takes apart and one puts together. Clip editor is most often used when you have captured a long series of music clips from perhaps an LP or Cassette. Use clip editor to split the audio file into different clips, to clean up the audio file and perhaps also add effects. It is very convenient to use to cut out part of a music clip if you only want a short section of the music - some passage or phrase if you want to use it in a video production.
