So you pick on us to complain ?    "That is illogical" and doesn't make many friends.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I have McAfee on my system ( for those who don't like it.....I know, but it's free with my DSL and it makes home networking easier with their networking software.)

Before installing ANY program, I go in an disable everything in McAfee.   You've got to click on the Computers&Files, Internet&Network, and Emails - under the small 'configure' button which is in the lower right hand corner in the version I have.....and disable all the options.
For some programs, you have to disable all the popup blockers in the various toolbars that can get automatically installed in Internet Explorer, but I don't think that's necessary in this case.

Then install the program, restart the computer, then let McAfee protect everything again.   Mine has a FIX button in McAfee that will do that automatically.

Good luck.

Get rid of the registry cleaner or disable it!   It doesn't do anything but screw up computers.

First make sure that your computer is up to date. Follow this list (link).

Back up your hard drive.  When you do that, you can use Revo Uninstaller (free) in the Moderate Mode.  Remove the program and the registry lists that it finds.  There will be thousands but don't panic.  Disconnect fromn the internet and, depending on your anti-viru, disable it (OFF) or remove it. With McAfee it is better to remove it. Go to the web site for your antivirus and follow their instructions.  Install the Roxio program from the disc.  Install your anti-virus after making sure that any registry cleaner function is not working.

If your computer is up to date, it should take you no longer than one hours to remove the program and reinstall it.  I can't guess how long that it will take you to completely disable or delete your antivirus.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Glad you got it working -  chalk up another for mCAfee.

You referenced two Kb articles but it would be better if you posted links to them since that may help other people.
