Noticed that I did not see Roxio currently on the list of software video editing vendors supporting the new AVCHD format?  Has any mention of this been made that others have heard of for the next version?

If you are talking about BlueRay, I don't think it would be added to EMC8. Perhpas in the next version.  However, EMC8 does support hidef FILES.

Just what people thought when DVD came out. -R then +R, +RW then -RW, now DVD Ram. It's the next step. Only thing holding it back is the price!

Sounds more like another good reason NOT to buy a miniDVD camcorder.   How many set top DVD players can play them? It would be cool though if they could get support for this format on 4.7 and 8.5 DVDs with playback on lesser expensive DVD players. Not just on BlueRay or HD DVD players.

DVD Ram didn't make it, and never will.  I know that that is not you were referring to when you mentioned price, because I know that you are a far smarter person than that.

I agree with that Bruce. DVD RAM will never make it. One of my sons has one and he thought it would be great at first but now he wants to get rid of it. He has had more trouble with it getting the media to work right with several programs he has. I'm not exactly sure which program he is using to capture the video from the DVD to his computer but I know he has complained about it not working well. Some of the problem may be "pilot error" too, but I wouldn't dare tell him that.

Not pilot error, Frank.  DVD RAM is not compatible with much of anything.  It was dead 4 years ago.  I have no clue why any burner manufaturer would still support it in their burners.

A list of 56 -16x burners today, that include DVD Ram. Dead or not, you don't want to be the company that don't offer it, when everyone else does. Like trying to market a +R only burner today!
Now what do ya think these company's will do with BD and HD?

Mine did recorded at a standard  format, not the HD format. They call it multi format, like, -RW, +RW, DVD Ram.

The first part of that question won't work because you and I understand the difference in the media and bit rate. They already have Dual Layer 40min standard format disc's to use in them.

The last part will  happen and the price will come down but one will need a BD or HD player.
What would that Dual Core rig with 2gig a Ram cost 4 years ago?
That's right, never had that technology back then. Who thought one would of needed it!

You'll have to explain WHY it wouldn't work.  What does the MEDIA have to do with it?  It's still digital video. Ones and zeros being recorded. A   8cm DVD disc is only 1.8gig and it holds 20min (40min dual layer) of AVCHD video.  If Sony could get the rest of the industry (software and HARDWARE like set top DVD players) to support the new format on 4.7 and 8.5gig discs, there is absolutely no reason why it wouldn't work. My math is a little rusty, but wouldn't that be roughly 90min on 8.5gig disc? With a little more compression, I'm sure they could make it 2 hr. If Sony could get their own set top DVD player on the market to support this, I bet it could almost kill Blueray.  Why pay $999 for Blueray when you could get HD on a $99 player?

Agree on the $99.00 player.

Could it work probably. Could today's settops play it probably, with a firmware upgrade.
What I should of said, Sony and Panasonic own the technology and the Patent. It will only work if they want it to and they make there cash.

Sony is not going to kill there BD technology.
It's only a stop-gap until you can record directly to BD and HD.
The only thing I know of Sony ever gave away for free, was the root-kit!

A mini DVD holds 1.36gb or 1395mb.

I suppose if someone can afford to buy a $1000 camcorder, they could afford the $1000 BlueRay player.
