I have uploaded video files from my iPhone which are .Mov files to edit in my Roxio Creator 2010 Pro but the video is jerky in the production editor timeline or storyline, which makes it nearly impossible to edit.

Does anyone else have this problem? It is something to do with the preview settings I think because after I output the video it looks fine as a finished video. Any Sugestions?

You also want to check your Source file to make sure it is HD as steve Indicated:



I also suggest you do not try output Higher than the source. The quality will suffer when it tries to traslate to a different size.

I had that issue using videos from A Kodak minicam. Other camcorders worked OK.  Where did you get yours?  Can you post a short section of the video on an on-line sharing site?

The simplest solution is to use a video conversion program (download a free one from cnet.com) that will convert high definition mov files to high definition mpg2 files.  There are several that work well.  I have used "Any Video Converter" with some success but some of the options (such as resolution) are sort of hidden with no down arrows unless you click in the option box.

Thank you for your quick reply...I will try that and let you know how it goes.So it sounds like it is because the video is in HD with the new iPhone 4 (that is what I am using) so I will need to convert it first then upload it.I wonder if the Creator 2010 Pro can convert it?
I tried it in the convert video section but it would not work. I may have done something wrong (first time user).Thanks again!!

I downloaded the Anyvideo converter and converted the .mov file to the Mpeg-2 movie(mpg)as you mentioned, which stopped the jittery movement in the Roxio Videowave editing pane.But the quality of the video doesn't look as good. I have not output the video yet(been busy) but you did mention high definition mpg2 but not sure if it was hd or not, just mpeg-2 movie? Is it going to lose quality or maybe I have not converted correctly? Let me know what you think when you get the chance?

Iphone 4 is supposed to do high definition video at 768 resolution.  In Any Video Converter did you chose that output? (1080 (info on phone does't give that information) by 720)?

In Edit Video Advanced, did you chose 16 by 9 when you started this project?

To burn your video to an AVCHD did, did you follow this general procedure (link)?  I assume that you are not going to want to burn those videos to a blu-ray disc.

I checked my source video frame size and it was 720 x 576 so I then changed the output frame size to the same 720 x 576. Converted the video to Mpeg-2 movie.Uploaded it into Edit video advanced and chose 16 x 9 and it looks fine now.Thanks for the tips!! As a first time user this was all ver useful info.

It is a shame I have to go through this process each time I take video on my iPhone but that looks unavoidable. I suppose I can batch convert with AnyVideo Converter and do many clips at the same time.That may make it less time consuming.

I will use your burn to video explanation when I finish the edit. That will be helpful as well.

This is the first time to use a forum for me.Very useful indeed.

Suggest you try Freemake Video Converter instead of Any Video Converter.  Freemake is shareware and allows numerous variable settings and outputs. It will convert your video files to the same quality level as the originals.

Just browsing,saw this thread. I wanted to comment,because when I first started using Creator 2010 for HD .mts files at 1920x1080 I ran into the same thing. Real jerky in videowave,but the output video finished fine.I would also experience delayed audio when using the editor.So I would convert the raw video files to mpeg ( a time consuming process)

The issue seems to,for the most part,resolved itself now over time without any action from me, and I can edit the raw .mts files at 1920x1080.I still on occasion have some jumpiness after putting together a string of clips and playing the combined video back in videowave,but not often.

All`s I can figure is the computer got an auto-update that resolved the issue?

Anyhow, don`t just rely on file conversion,the problem may go away.
