I used "Back up Window" to do a complete back up of designatged files on my pc to a CD. The report of the back up job upon completion indicated 162 file count, 125.76MB after compression and 168.3MB before compression. Subsequent examination of the CD via "MY Computer" /preferences indicated that the CD was completely full with no free space remaining. Since I had previously formatted the CD-RW and checked it I don't understand where the additional MB's came from. When I opened the CD I observed an Icon which opened to a Back up window. Can some one explain whats going on here. Now that the CD does not have any free space I assume I will not be able to add any new files to back up.

The next time I back up I would like to do an incremental backup that is only those files that have changed since the original complete backup can I make this change?

You can't look at a disk backed up with Backup MYPC with Windows Explorer. Whatever format BUMP uses to do it's backup is not compatible with Windows. It will tell you if there is not enough room to do a subsequent backup.
I also suggest you just use regular CDs rather than RWs. They are notorious for losing information. Might be okay to transfer from one machine to another, but not for any kind of backup. Even though you may have to use a new CD each time, it is better than relying on a disk that may or may not actually have your data.

Thank you for your advice re CDs rather than Rws which I will follow.

Note that "Roxio Backup my PC 6" has Disk information which I have now checked after your comment about Windows above. It confirmed Windows in that I used the entire CD when my backup consisted of only 168 MB. There is no more freespace remaining. I presume that some soft ware was loaded on to the disk by BUMP in addition to my files backup. If anyoine knows anything about that I would appreciate hearing it. I presume if I try to back up any additional files, I will called upon to incert a second
cd :Appreciate all comentry.

BUMP does not add any software when it backs up. Wherever you are restoring to, that system has to have BUMP already installed on it (except in the case of a Disaster Recovery Backup/restore). There may be some overhead, but if there was only about 126mb on the RW, you should have been able to add more backups. I have done this in the past with DVD-RWs (not my only copy). I could put 3-4 backups on one DVD. I can't explain why it would not let you do more backups to this same CD-RW.

You may missunderstand. What I am saying is that with no free space on the CD I will need an additional CD to put more backups on the job.
Also note that When the CD is openrd an Icon named "backup" is present. Clicking on it opens the "Roxio Backup my PC 6.0" logo this then is followed by the "Welcome to Backup my PC 6.0" window. This window has buttons labeled "Quick Start", "Backup" , "Restore" and "Compare". All this lead me to believe that the Roxio software was installed on my back up CD. All of this must have taken up the available space on the CD. Very confused about that.

Then use a DVD. Those are links to the software you have on your computer. Perhaps you missed the helpful posts, by Marlinsinger, in your thread.

It sounds like you are opening this disk automatically with windows/explorer and it is bringing up BUMP due to the file association. Open BUMP prior to inserting the disk, insert the disk, and try to add a backup to the disk, making sure that in your job options you have ask whether to append or overwrite. Windows can not tell what space is on that disk. Only BUMP can tell whether it can add data or not.

Thanks for your reply. This is my first time around with Bump so help is appreciated. I cannot burn a DVD on my laptop. Perhaps you are correct that they are links to my computer. However------------

Using Bump I clicked on Disc Information and Bump advised that the disc had 1 track, used 702. MB and free space is now zero. I don't understand this, as the Job report at the completion of my backup project indicated that 125.MB were used after compression and 168.3 MB prior to compression. What is troubling me is where the other 577MB are coming form. I'm really not concerned if I have to install another CD when adding to the back but I am perplexed. To add to the mystery, I subsequently discovered when searching for an unrelated file in "My Document" folder a short cut named "backup", so I clicked on it. It connected me to the backup CD which I had in the D drive with the backup icon on it. So I took the CD out of the drive and went back to the document folder and clicked on "backup " again and I got a message asking for the CD. I installed a different CD in the drive and received a message saying this was not the correct CD. So here was a functioning short cut in My document folder relating to the backup CD and I don't know how that short cut got there. All looks very puzzling to me as I don't understand what is happening.

I am not sure what to tell you. As a test, I backed up some data, 2.28gb, to a DVD-RW. After completion, it reported 2.28gb file on the DVD and that the capacity was 4.482gb. this was under tools/media/identify. After the format it showed as 0 used. The only thing I can think of is that you backed up more than you thought. Have you looked at the catalog for that backup. Also use the restore window/device view to look at exactly what is on the disk. It will tell you all the files on the disk.
When I look at it in windows explorer, it shows the whole disk be used, even after a format only, no backup. File backup.qic.
As for the short cut in my documents, are you sure this wasn't in the recent files folder?

Once again thanks for the reply. I intend to follow your recomendation above. However I've been persuing the situation and would like to bring to your attention the follwing:

This is my first time around with Bump so help is appreciated. Instead of using widows this time I used BUMP to check the CD
In Bump I clicked on Disc Information and Bump advised that the disc had 1 track, used 702MB and free space is zero. This now confirms what was found when using Windows. The Job report at the completion of my backup project indicated that only 125.MB were used after compression and 168.3 MB prior to compression. What is troubling me is where the other 577MB are coming from. I'm really not concerned if I have to install another CD when adding to the backup but I am perplexed as to what is taking place. To add to the mystery, I subsequently discovered when searching for an unrelated file in "My Document" folder a short cut named "backup", so I clicked on it. It connected me to the backup CD which I had in the D drive . So I took the CD out of the drive and went back to the document folder and clicked on "backup " again and this tiome I got a message asking for the CD. I installed a different CD in the drive and received a message saying this was not the correct CD. So here was a functioning short cut in My document folder relating to the backup CD. I beleive that short cut was placed there during the backup process. I don't understand its purpose in "MY Document " folder. Regrding your suggestion to add a backup to the disc, I will do that. Originally the job was a full back up of the selected files. I will do that again, however can I subsequently change the job to an incremental job

Let us know what you find out. Definitely use the rstore window and device view to see exactly what files are listed on the CD.
As to the shortcut in My Documents, I have never seen any put there by BUMP.
