I have been trying to use MyDVD 8 Premium (for .tivo files), but it seems on the authored dvd, the video ever 60 seconds or so, starts to go slow and then speed back up again. I tried closing every background program I have running, but it doesn't seem to help. Does anyones else have this problem?

And therein lies one of your problems.  Post your computer specs.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

PC  Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Velocity Micro ProMagix ©HD 60; evga x58 motherboard, Intel i7 @2.93, 12G RAM, EVGA Nvidia 560TI superclocked video card, SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card, Buffalo external blu-ray burner; Creator 2012. PhotoShow 6, VHS to DVD 3Plus.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Apple =OSX 10.5

Probably not enough disk space.  If you are getting into video editing, I recommend lots of hard drive space.  There are some great back-to-school sales right now. Circuit City has a Western Digital 250gig HD for only $49.99 after rebates. IDE with 8MB cache
Phenom X4 965 3.4Ghz, 4gig DDR3, LG 47" 3D TV, Hitachi 1TB HD, Seagate 500GB, LiteOn iHBS112 Bluray, TSSTCorp SH-222A DVD, ATI HD3300 IGP, VIA HiDef audio with Logitech Z5500 THX certified 5.1 speakers, Epson 4490 scanner, Canon 9000Pro MarkII printer, Sharp AL1551CS laser printer/copier, Sony TRV740 8mm digital, Canon HV20 HDV camcorder and Fuji S7000 for still photos, Win7 Home Premium
---------
System 2: HP DV7 laptop, Turion II Dual Core 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 640GB hard drive, ATI Mobility HD4650, ATI HiDef Audio, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have also had some problems with the program freezing and usually it was the VideoWave program....I haven't had problems with other DVD burning software (but those don't do .Tivo files...) might it be something else?

It might,  but two people have suggested hard drive space -- so what's the problem?  If you do not want to open your computer to put in another hard drive, buy the new hard drive and get an external USB enclosure for it.  The put some of these files on the external device to clear up some space.  Also make sure you do frequent clean ups and defrag on your hard drive.

Please don't play the "yes-- but" game.

I found out it has nothing to do with the hard drive space. When I changed the application settings to render using the hardware instead of the software, then it didn't do the 'speed up then slow down' thing. however, it still doesn't look very good. It seems that it looks interlaced (although I set it for progressive), but it almost looks interlaced 'vertically'. Strange, i know....has anyone else had any problems with the picture quality of .tivo files?
