I've succesfully burned an mp4 file onto a DVD with Creator Starter (2011?) included with my new Dell. However, my DVD player does not recognize the disc. (It does play on the PC.) Why is that? Thanks

You cannot simply burn the mp4 file to a DVD and expect to play it on a DVD player. You have to create proper DVD using myDVD to burn the video to a DVD. You have not given much information at all to be able to offer any help. Please read this and come back with some info
Did the Start C2011 come with your Dell? If yes then it is probably an OEM version and with some features (of the full retail version) missing and/or crippled.

"Creator Starter" is based on last years Creator 2010 Suite...
