Sense Code Error

Can anyone help me solve this all to common problem? I am using a Toshiba Qosmio G20 with a Matsushita DVD multi drive. I am running Win XP MCE SP3, IE7. I also have an external DVD rewritable drive - Samsung. I simply cannot get anything written on cds or dvds. I keep getting the following error message when using Sonic Ver. 7.31, build 731b20c Engine 418b 16m 1.2.47.
Sense: 03 ASC: 0C ASCQ: 00 (Command 2A)
-------------------------------------------------------
Px.dll: 2.6.55.500
pxdrv.dll: 1.1.60.0
PxMas.dll: 2.6.55.500
PxWave.dll: 2.6.55.500
pxwma.dll: 1.0.0.3
I tried numerous dvd/cd writing software with no luck. I eventually bought the external Samsung dvd writer thinking that that the in built dvd writer was at the end of its life but this did not work either. I was using Memorex and Philips dvds and Sony cds and then switched to Verbatim. A couple of dvds burnt but then back to square one. I then tried reformatting the hard drive as I had exhausted the hardware problems. It still doesn't burn anything/ It stops within 30 seconds. i installed Ashampoo burning program but it too failed to burn. I assumed that maybe it was an incompatibility issue wit IE 8 so I reformatted again and tried IE6...no use...upgraded to IE7...still not burning. Does anyone out there have an answer? It seems like a common problem from all the google postings.

Tried with DLA enabled and disabled on the drive too...no difference. I was using a Verbatim DVD+R and Sonic recognised the disc as empty.

Have you tried using your external writer on another computer (friends/neighbor's). - just asked a friend to try burning with the external dvd writer today so he has it today. My other desktop is kaput ...suddenly stopped turning on and the other laptop is too old...Win 98...keeping for old times sake...still works.
You have tried other program's, as well as Roxio's and they ALL fail....its worth a try. - I used Nero 10, Ashampoo, cheetah, ...lost track on which ones
I am assuming you have updated your burners firmware/drivers. - Its updated on the laptop to the latest on the Toshiba's website. The Samsung firmware is up to date as its new. I nevertheless tried to update it but was told that its the latest firmware that is already installed.
...and yes I did do everything in the link
Resolving General Burning Issues
Knowledgebase Article : 000008GN
Issue
When burning a CD or DVD, you receive an error about your blank disc not being recognized, burning does not complete, or your media is rejected.
Resolution
Update your drive's firmware/drivers.
Enable DMA.
Your media. Check the following:
The disc is clean and unused.
The media is recommended by your burner's manufacturer or try a different brand, preferably a name brand, if you continue to have problems.
Make sure that media (-R/+R, -/+RW, dual-layer compatibility) is supported by the burner by checking burner's manual or manufacturer's website. This is especially true for some Blu-Ray burners which do not support CD-R/RW media.
Lower the write speed of your burner.
If your burner is external, make sure it is connected directly to the computer via USB/Firewire and not a hub or other other device like a sound card.
Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market.
[b]A reinstall of the burner's drivers.

Did you try contacting Nero or Ashampoo to see why their software did not work?
Does it also fail when you use the basic CD burning capabilities of XP?.

Even tried the basic Windows cd writing by right clicking on files and sending to the drive the trying to write using the wizard but no use with either writer.

If your burner works ok on your friends computer then, take your computer to you local Computer Service man and just tell him "you cant burn a CD using XP".
Or, if you have a friend/neighbor/co worker who has some basic computer skills, get them to drop over to give you a hand.
