hi yall, first post, let me know if this is in the wrong forum

but anyways,  i have a bunh of 700Mb movies on my HD that were made to go onto regular CD's i guess.  Well when i adding new movies to the MYDVD express, it says that the DVD is full after only 2 movies?  Its a 4.6 G DVD so is my math off or am i doing something wrong here?

Well you're math isn't off IF you were creating a data DVD, but you aren't.  Think of it more like taking a bunch of MP3s and making an audio CD.  The MP3s must be converted to the audio CD format which is NOT compressed.

Most likely the video files you have are DivX format which is highly compressed.  These files must be converted to MPEG 2 for burning to a video DVD and MPEG 2 is not compressed as much making the files larger.

In general, you can get only ONE HOUR on a 4.7 DVD at best quality. After that, the video must be compressed more which will cause poorer quality. For my personal taste, 2 hours is about maximum amount on a DVD that still has fairly good quality.

i see, im still new to the whole dvdr world,  so i take it the program is already decompressing them for me if it says the size is now up to 3+gb's for one 700mb file?

you say the max is about 2 hours onto a DVD before quality starts getting really bad?  what are the options in order to start making the decompressed files smaller,  is that when you start messing with the aspect ratio

thanks

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. I put about 1:12 on a DVD and my wife nearly made me move out of the house! That movie now lives on 2 DVDs but she never forgave me…

Get a disc or 2 of RW media, which you can erase, and start experimenting.
