I'm new to DVD burning, so please have patience ...

SETUP
I have EyeTV and Toast 7 on a MacBook Pro - everything is fully patched and up-to-date.  I'm UK-based and receive a PAL signal.  I own an old TV (4:3) and a Toshiba SD-330E DVD player.

PROBLEM
EyeTV recordings burnt to DVD display correctly on the Mac, but are split vertically when viewed on the TV using the DVD player.  Approximately one third of the image is tranposed from the left side of the screen to the right, separated by a vertical black line.  The part-image on the right has a flashing thin line underneath it.

I've screened the forums for other similar problems - the closest I can find is here (which sounds very similar!) but it doesn't indicate what the solution is.  I suspect it might be a PAL/NTSC problem, from this and other posts - could I be correct?

I've checked that Toast is set to output PAL format, the original recording is 25fps according to EyeTV and I've confirmed that the VIDEO file it writes to DVD is 25fps.  I've tried fiddling with the DVD format control - switching from AUTO detect to PAL, and screen layout from 4:3, 4:3 widescreen and letterbox.  The original is widescreen, and that's how it displays on the Mac, so the problem is restricted to TV display.  I don't have access to a widescreen TV unfortunately.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Many thanks
David

It sounds like you are making the disc correctly, so the question would then be if your TV is PAL or NTSC?

It's too old for the documentation to have survived ... however, since it works properly directly connected to the antenna, was purchased in the UK etc. I assume it's PAL.

I hope to try the disk on another TV later tonight.....

Hi David,

I posted the original problem. The best I could come up with was to use the Toshiba player's picture setup to select "4:3 Normal". This got rid of the "staggered" effect, but didn't fill the frame on my widescreen TV.

I don't think it's an EyeTV or Toast failing, but a consequence of the way the original programme was broadcast. For reference it was an E4 broadcast in the UK.

Hope this helps,

Nick.
