EMC8 is failing to create bootable CDs that work.

As an IT person, from time to time I need to create bootable CDs. (Presently I need to create a bootable Windows XP CD that includes a service pack). EMC8 Creator Classic creates the bootable CD but when I use it to boot, the PC just reboots repeatedly.

I went to another computer where I have Easy CD Creater 5 (old !!) and used it to make the bootable CD, and it works. Why does it work in ECDC 5, but not EMC8 CC?

Some specifics...
-I'm using a boot.ima image file dated 1999 which I've used many times over the years to make bootable CDs.
-I set disk type to "No emulation"
Boot sector and segment settings are 0x0 and 4, respectively.
-File system is Joliet

The CD burns fine and appears to be complete. When I boot it, the first thing to display is "Press any key to boot from CD". When I press a key, the PC reboots.

As stated, I made a bootable PC with the same parameters on ECDC 5 and it booted and allowed me to install XP.

Anyone know what the deal is with EMC 8?

I found my original slipstreaming/bootable disk instructions here (which has been replaced by this one). The same site also has a bootable disk troubleshooting FAQ here. Perhaps there's something that will help you in the FAQ.

Otherwise, whenever I mess up creating a bootable WinXP disk the system returns a "kernel not found" type of error. It doesn't just reboot on me. First thing I would try in your case is redownloading the bootimg file and try again with a new boot file.

BTW, I use Creator Classic 6 and have yet to try it with CC8.

I am having the same problem with EMC8. I have followed instructions linked in a post above, as well as on Paul Thurrott's SuperSite, all of which were for old versions, and there don't seem to be any valid instructions for version 8 out there. This really sucks. I decided to buy Roxio after abandoning it for many years and now I want to abandon it again. MagicISO works just fine, btw.

I tried making a bootable WinXPSP2 disk with CC8 tonight. I used the same system files as I have used in the past (I have to make bootable disks often enough that I keep a dedicated project folder just for that purpose - my company has a site license).

I can confirm Dave's observation that a bootable WinXP disk created by CC8 reboots the system. After "Press any key to boot from CD..." I press any key and go straight to the BIOS boot screen. I used the revised instructions found in the link above (TTID #311).

This is the first time I've used these newer instructions. The real proof of the pudding will be to try the same instructions with CC6. Unfortunately, I'll have to load it on my system and try this perhaps tomorrow evening.

I had the same problem creating a bootable XP install CD with Roxio 7.5. The Roxio 6-based instructions I was using to slipstream XP SP2 into the original XP install files called for a bootable CD with No Floppy Emulation, the Load Segment set to 0x7c0, and the Sector Count=4. Also, using ISO Buster, I needed to use the original Microsoft BOOTIMG.BIN.

Since Roxio 7.5 had 1.44MB Floppy Emulation as the only choice, I figured the settings were all wrong. Even still, Roxio 7.5 would not let me select my own .BIN file -- It wanted a boot floppy to extract from, like there's such a thing as a 1.44MB XP boot floppy!

Well, I had my old copy of Roxio 5.1. So I reloaded it, built an .ISO with the correct settings (because 5.1 didn't recognize my LightScribe DVD writer without a lot of upgrading), and now my new home-made PC with Intel Core 2 and PCIe is loading just fine.

Add another customer with the same problem trying to do the identical bootable cd task - slipstreaming win2003 server sp1. The software must be unable to handle this type of bootable CD. Can someone please prove me wrong? Any solutions to share? Roxio? Thanks in advance!!!

I'm so ticked off at Roxio I'm forsaking the tool, now... What a crock... Two months and no answer to this problem, PLUS they sent me a promotion asking me to upgrade to Version 8 THREE WEEKS before releasing Version 9, which requires yet another upgrade fee since it's not a "dot" version upgrade.

I had given up on EZ CD Creator v4 and now I remember why...

I highly recommend MagicISO which, while probably best suited to a technically-savvy user, is a GREAT tool, works wonderfully, is regularly maintained, and is cheap. I'm also using Alcohol 120% and SlySoft for certain CD/DVD tasks... but MagicISO is what I use 100% of the time for bootable CD/DVD creation.

I'm an IT systems Engineer by trade and have used Roxio products since version 4 of ECD
although iv had no issues with making Boot DVDs or Cd's in EMC8 & 9, i mainly use a different app to make the slipstream CD of XP and then use EMC8 to burn the Cd's.

I am trying the same thing as everyone else. I have been trying to burn a WinXP SP2 disc with hotfixs. I get the "Press a key to boot from CD...", hit a key, and then the PC reboots shortly after. I remember that this used to work.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet?

EMC 8 can't make a bootable CD. EMC 9 does.

Ooops, I forgot to mention that I AM using EMC 9. I should have posted this in a different thread. Either way, I am unable to make the disc bootable.
