Hi. I just hooked up an S cable from my video card to my TV for the first time. Everything comes up as it should on my TV screen, duplicating my computer monitor. Except that the DVD dosn't play on the TV screen. I get the image of my my cineplayer except within that, the image is blank where the dvd should be playing even though it is simultaneously playing properly on my computer monitor. Suggestions?

Does your Video Card allow you to do that?

Yes. For some reason, I have no problem playing the DVD in Windows Media Center but not in Cineplayer or Windows Media player. Strange. The video card duplicates everyting on my monitor onto my TV screen all the time but for when I play a DVD in Cineplayer or Windows Media player but plays OK in Media Center.

Check the video card's Properties for settings. Some video cards (especially nVidia) treat the video as an 'overlay' to the main monitor. On my nVidia card, I have a check box called, 'Force TV detection'. I don't have a TV close enough to hook up with the SVideo out.

Ggrussell, you're a genius! That solved the problem even though mine is an ATI card. I just wonder how newbies like myself are suppose to know this. The instructions didn't mention this with the use of an S cable. Being a newbie, I also just discovered that S cables don't carry audio. Since my only audio out on my computer is attached to my computer speakers, any suggestion as to how I can get my audio from my computer to the TV to use its audio in and its speakers?

The only option is to unplug your speakers. You can get a cable that plugs into the sound card and has RCA stereo on the other end. Hopefully the TV is close enough to the computer you won't need too long a cable.
