I have an LG burner and Lightscribe works fine. You may need to go to their website. There is an update to Lightscribe plus a utility to make it burn darker, too.
There is also a firewire update at Microsoft:
Update for Windows XP (KB885222)
After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, some 1394 devices (such as digital cameras that use S400 speed) may not perform as expected.
Firewire Fix for SP2
