I'm still new to this whole process and I need some help. I have EMC 7.
I converted some old VHS to dvd by using an external dvd burner. I could move the files from the media selector part of the videowave screen to the production editor part (storyline view). Some files are around 3GB. So I read in the discussion group forums to split the file using the timeline view. The problem is that when I double click on the panels while in storyline view (after they have been split to manageable size) and I go to the video trimmer window to edit the video, the smaller start and end windows are fine (durationonly like 90 seconds) but the middle window the buttons are under doesn't show any video. Instead it shows like part of the window I was last in.
The dvd burner makes mpg files and I converted to avi first and I had luck doing the above with a 10 min avi file chopped into about 4 minutes.
Does it have to do with the type of file it is?
Also, I only have a 1.6Ghz machine with 512 of RAM.
Any thoughts?

I don't think it has anything to do with the type of file. The avi file should be easy to edit.
You're really doing extra work. You should be able to 'fine tune' the edits in the timeline view. Just use the preview window to advance or back up one frame at a time and do a 'split' where you want to edit the video. Then you find the next place you want the scene to begin or end and do another split. It's easy to delete a scene that contains unwanted footage by clicking on it to outline it in orange and clicking the red X.
The only exception would be if the edit is within 10 frames of the last split. Then you have to use the Adjust Duration.
Have you downloaded and installed any updates to your version?
There is also a knowledgebase article about the transparent video trimmer window here:
