Hello all,

I am at my wit's end, as I have been burning DVD-R DL coasters, by the baker's dozen!

I am using RiData 4X DVD-R DL InkJet Printable media, and have tried burning in a Pioneer DVR-110D, a Matsushita UJ-846, and finally a Plextor PX-760A. I have tried these drives on various computers, too, including a PowerMac G5 DP2.5, a PowerMac G4 DP1.25, and a MacBook Pro 17. I have tried them internally and in an external FW box. I have tried Toast 7.1 and 7.01. I don't know what else to try...

I have burned 20 discs successfully and 13 coasters. Not a great average, and VERY TIME CONSUMING, which is really the biggest problem of all.

Has anyone had any regular success with any of the above configurations. If so, can you please suggest what I might do to also be successful? If not, maybe some other suggestions?

Thanks, in advance,
-Rob

I personally haven't used Ridata media but I checked the user reports at Videohelp.com and the burn success seems a mixed bag. Insert a blank disc in your Mac and choose Disc Info... under the Toast Recorder menu. There you'll see a hot link to the videohelp page that has those user reports.

You can check the drive manufacturer's sites to see if their drives specifically support Ridata DL media with the drive's current firmware. A firmware update may help.

From what I've read the most reliable DL media is the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I am also using a Plextor PX-760A with a G5 2GDP and Ritek +R DL media. I just made 5 coasters in a row trying to make DL data backups. I am going to try other brands, not sure how much difference that will make. I just retired my external 716UF for this new internal burner and am regretting it -- my old one worked just fine with Ritek/Ridata brand media.
