PS - I'm running OS 10.4.11 on a G5 power Mac duel processor (NOT an Intel). Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I followed your suggestion, but still getting the same error message.
Does anyone else have a suggestion? It's really bugging me now, since I just bought Toast in order to clean off my drives, and am getting nowhere.

Not sure about settings on Toast; it just opens up a window in which to drop files and says it will put them onto two DVD discs. For starters I'm trying to transfer files of pictures (jpegs), but later want to also transfer videos and word documents. Trying to burn onto TDK single-layer DVD discs since they hold much more information than CDs. Main hard drive has about a Gig, maybe a bit less, and secondary hard drive has about 10 Gig, but needs much more space for backing up my main drive, thus the need to clean off my drives. I think i've eliminated file libraries. Perhaps I also need to check Mac forums to see what that error code means.

There is a possibility that this has something to do with writing the discs rather than with reading the data. If so, you could try choosing Save as Disc Image (saving to the disc that has 10 gigs of space. If that succeeds, then try burning the disc image file to disc using the Image File setting in the Copy window.
I'm sorry that I can't give a clear solution to the problem you're experiencing. It may even be that the root drive is so full that Toast needs some unavailable space to work. Copying about 5 gigs of files to the secondary hard drive to free up more space on the root drive may help. I don't know. I'm just guessing.
