when i attempt to add an avi file to burn i receive the following message: The file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Exactly what type of avi file is it?  DV, xvid, divx?  Divx isn't supported.

You posted in the "General Chat" forum so I am wondering exactly what Roxio program you are using to burn with ??

Or Did I miss something

I'm sorry it's Roxio creater 2009 and it's an xvid avi file. I was able to burn xvids just fine two weeks ago. now i can't all i get is the message i stated above.

Is this with all Xvid or DivX avi files or only a particular one? Where did these files come from

Some more details on exactly what you are doing, what program from C2009 you are using would be helpful. Without some information all you are saying is "something worked and now doesn't"

Ok like i said i'm using Roxio creator 2009. I opened the application and  selected create DVD's the once the project was opened all I usually do is drop and drag the movie file, setup menu's then select burn from the top menu.  Now what it is doing now is if i select any type of avi file, wma, xvid etc i receive the error message stated above that since the file you are trying to use cannot be edited and has not been added.

Now some of these are torrent files some of these are direct dvd copies but i use to be able to burn any file i placed in the application. As a matter of fact two weeks ago i burned an xvid avi file just fine. Now I cannot.

That is illegal in most parts of this world unless you own the copyright to those downloaded files and DVD's!

Roxio does not allow discussion of it on there website.

Ok my apologies forget the discussion of torrents but i do own over 1000 purchased dvd's. Some of which i would like to copy and give to my son who has a dvd player in his own room and i don't want him watching mine all the time. I also purchased Roxio 2009 for 50.00 so it is a legal purchased copy. Now can anyone help me with the problem i am having as i cannot even copy my own dvd,s. Or would just be better if i went out and purchased Roxio creator 2011 to save the hassle?

Sorry, the same applies to DVD's!

Roxio software will not copy a copy protected DVD.

Don't you see the FBI warning at the beginning of a DVD?
