On the top right of the Burn/Transfer button, there is a memory size selector button that allows choices of 128MB, 256MB, etc. I read through the documentation and can't find what it is used for.

Does it apply to transfering DVD-video to iPod, which I am doing?

The storage space for each portable device is different and the "size selector" allows you to choose the size that's closest to the space you have for your portable device...

The area above the red button (the colored greenish arc) is an estimate of how much space the output is going to occupy. In the case of a DVD, this is how much of the disc it is going to occupy. In the case of a Player export, this is how much of the hard disk or flash memory it is going to occupy.

The pop-up next to it adjusts the calibration of the estimate. You can set it to single or double-layer size for DVDs (e.g., 4.7 GB or 8.3 GB), or various other sizes for hard disk or flash memory.

This does not force the output down to that size - that is done through the Copy Options.
