I have noticed a few posts addressing the problem of trying to save projects while using Jam. After a week of trying to solve this problem (I am incredibly frustrated by the lack of response from Roxio), I am BEGGING SOMEONE, ANYONE to help me.

I have a new imac (OS10.4 Tiger). I have just purchased the most recent version of Toast with Jam 6. I had no problems with the previous version of this software (very pleased with it in fact). I am trying to do a very basic thing - I pull songs (AAC format) into Jam, create crossfades, adjust volume levels and then burn CD's. I save the project. In "preferences" I have checked "Never Delete." Yet, when I shut down for the day and restart to continue working on the Jam project, all the tracks have disappeared. The ".disc file" exists, but all the tracks are gone and cannot be found. It's inconceivable that this $200 piece of software seemingly does not allow you to do one of the most basic and essential steps - SAVING ALL YOUR WORK!

A few kind folks have suggested a workaround (re-naming the file) but this isn't working either. NONE of the posts regarding this problem have been sufficiently answered by anyone from Roxio (From what I am beginning to gather, this is no surprise). What's the big secret? Anyone else out there having this problem? Is this a bug in the interface between the latest version of Toast with Jam and the new imac OS10.4 Tiger? Can someone please help me? I would be eternally grateful.

P.S. For the record. I communicated via email with a very pleasant customer service person from Roxio before purchasing the software. She responded very quickly to my inquiries regarding Toast with Jam. I also spoke with her on the phone when I ordered and purchased the software. Now that I am having problems, I've gotten no response at all to my pleas for help via email or otherwise. Eager to take my money I guess, but not provide any service thereafter.

I have a G5 iMac and I'm not having any trouble saving and re-opening a Jam project with AAC or other audio files. Jam can't find the audio files that are dragged into it if they are moved since it was saved (because Jam doesn't import the tracks themselves, only points to the original files). Is there any reason Jam can't find the originals in your case? They aren't in the converted items folder because that only is used when you actually process the project by burning a CD or creating a disc image.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Interesting. Jam just ignores what's in the converted items folder when you quit. I just tried the same thing. It was making second copies of files it had already converted.

One thing I have noticed is that when the names are longer than 32 characters (including the extension, like *.mp3), Jam can't find the original files (Apple Lossless, in my case)-- very annoying.

What's worse is that the songs AFTER these long files names are sometimes not recorded properly. The track lengths are correct, but there is no sound. The track number is there, but no music.

The 32 character file name issue is a holdover from the OS9 days. Jam really needs to be updated. It has some issues with basic stuff.

I have found that the best way to keep Jam from losing tracks is to copy the tracks from your iTunes music library (if that's where you are getting your music from) to a new folder before creating a new Jam document.

I do this mainly because I like to edit the tracks with Peak in order to remove gaps at the beginning and end of the tracks, as well as to bump up the volume level using Peak's gain adjustment features. Regardless of whether or not you use Peak, I still recommend creating a "holding" folder to store your tracks in until you are ready to burn a CD or save a disc image.

Once my music is in my newly created folder, I then drag the tracks into my Jam document. I leave that folder untouched for the duration of my project. This is very important[i], because if you move or alter the folder in any way, Jam will not be able to locate the tracks the next time you open the .disc Jam document.

Once my project is finished, I always save it as a disc image. At that point, I can delete the .disc file as well as the folder containing my tracks. A disc image is unalterable, so you don't have to worry about Jam losing tracks from the image.

Cheers! :)

As I mention in this thread (http://forums.suppor...showtopic=8648), I think this is an issue with Quicktime 7.1.x. Once I downgraded to 7.0.4, I've been able to save tracks in Jam again. This is with version 10.4.7 of the OS.
