The question is what did you change on your system? What updates have you made to your system? What new programs have you installed?
C2009 is no longer supported and there have been no "updates" for the last few years so nothing has changed on that end.

What does the "same avi files" mean? Are these the exact same files that worked 3 months ago?
You really have not supplied much information other then it worked 3 months ago and now doesn't.

besides the windows 7 updates that i get from time to time nothing has changed on my machine. yes these are the exact same avi files i burned 3 months ago. I actually have projects saved in Roxio Creator that were saved from these very same avi files. I tried to burn those projects again today and received the message:

The file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added. What changed? Thanks

should i just uninstall and reinstall Roxio to see if that fixes the issue? or is it a compatability problem with one of the Win 7 updates i received recently? Thanks
