Need expert opinion on 7.1 update

Briefly, I just need some expert info about the [update70to71_2.exe].
Good? Bad? Indifferent?
I've got EMC7, which I bought new in the box in OCT '04.
All I really use it for is burning data backups to CD, and then not as often as I really should. But it is not working as well as I think it should. It keeps blinking the hourglass and doing disk I/Os when it should be idle, freezing up when trying to save a data project, Creator7.exe runs at 99%CPU and won't die, etc., that sort of thing. It's just not working very well at all.
I recently noticed they have this update available [update70to71_2.exe] and since there is no info available about what is in it, I thought "What the hey. How bad can it be?" and decided to install it.
It downloaded fine, (I've noticed other posts where folks couldn't even get it to download...), but I've been having this problem with Win Installer when trying to run the update70to71_2.exe.
I keep getting the following message:
"The InstallScript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup."
I have spent several hours looking into and messing with this, and have decided it is going to be more work to resolve it than I care to get into right now.
So my question is, does anyone know if there is anything in this 7.1 upgrade I really NEED, for reliability or performance, or should I just cut my losses and not worry about it right now?
(I've read some posts about V8 problems, and I probably wouldn't consider that an option at this point.)
Thanks for your attention and any tips or pointers to previous posts you can provide.

Until you get a new Installer version you will be unable to install any program update. Goto Microsoft website and download the latest version of the Windows Installer.

Nope. That ain't it. Already have that.
Says, "3. Click the Version tab. Note the file version number.• If the version number is 3.1.4000.1823, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v1) installed.
• If the version number is 3.1.4000.2435, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) installed. "
That's what mine is...
Thanks
So, um, is there any information available about what is in that 7.1x update? Fixes, enhancements,... anything like that?

Since the error is InstallShield related this link may help
http://consumer.inst....asp?id=Q108158
Do a google search on the error message for more info.
Also do a search in this forum for "ISScript". Other posters have had a similar problem and the posts may offer a solution.

Didn't help.
'Preciate it.
I've had no trouble installing other things recently, it's just this exe that has this problem.
So, if I could just find out what fixes are in that update, and whether it even addresses any of my initial CreatorClassic problems or not, I could make a better decision as to whether to keep messing with it right now. I've got plenty of other irons in the fire, and I can burn this bridge when I come to it...
I simply haven't been able to locate any release information on this 7.1 update on this website. Which is kinda ridiculous. Usually a software company will publish a paragraph or two about what is IN a release and what it is supposed to fix or enhance... no such luck here I guess.
It's probably in a readme file in the update. Which I can't install. Guess I could open the msp in a hex editor and dig through it...
So, what I'm wondering is if anyone has been able to install this update, and there is any information in it about what it fixes, that they could send me... that would be great.
Thanks
Dave

It contains an feature where you can select different playback options in DVD Builder like Play next title or Repeat title which allows you to make a continuously playing DVD.
I think it also contained some burner updates and minor 'fixes' for problems.
Are you using Creator Classic to write the data to the CDs? That's more stable than the Drag to Disk.

What problems are you having with Creator Classic? The only thing that I can remember is you could not rename the disk, and the update fixed that, I believe. Other than that, I don't think there was anything else fixed in Creator Classic. It wasn't broken to begin with.

ML,
OK. Good. Thanks
Yes, I'm only using the classic, not the drag.

Bruce,
Well, like I said..."It keeps blinking the hourglass and doing rhythmic disk I/Os when it should be idle, freezing up when trying to save a data project, Creator7.exe runs at 99%CPU and won't die, Burn button does nothing sometimes...etc., that sort of thing."
AND, when it verifies the files after a write, the verification fails, but the files seem to be ok. It just reports Access Failed on each one.
But it's good to know you have not had any problems with it. I really think all these problems are mostly from XP SP2 and subsequent windows updates... and possibly all the Visual Studio and .Net Framework crap on the machine. Who knows. In which case I'm probably just hosed. But I sure appreciate the info.
BTW, I did open all the install files (copied out of the temp folder during failed install attempt # 10 or so...) in my hex editor and didn't find any Readme files. References to one, yes. But not the file itself. Probably compressed. Oh well.
Thanks yall...
