When capturing video from old VCR tapes, I need to change the audio from stereo to mono.  Otherwise I end up with no sound on the DVD after burning.  These audio buttons are grayed out.  What do I do?

Have you tried making your own Quality template? If you hit New under Quality and the User Defined Template comes up can you change it under Channels? This is assuming you're using Media Import.

There isn't a New under quality.  The only options are Hardware..... with stereo.  I'm using a Plextor Px-M402U to capture the VCR tape into my computer.  Also, mono was not grayed out in version 7.5

What format are you capturing from the device?  It does several ....use mpg2 or avi.  I'm not sure that device gives you the avi option as an output.  I have used several different capture devices  and have never had to change to mono to get proper sound.  Have you tried to capture with WMM or with the Ulead product that came with that device?  Do you har the audio if you preview the video in VideoWave?  Are you using the audio plug that came with that device?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

I'm using mpg2, but there are three avi options.  Nothing works.  I think I need to change to mono because when these VCR tapes were made years ago the cables were not connected properly or maybe bad cables.  I've tried the Ulead product with the same results.  I do hear the audio when I play the video in Videowave, but there's no sound on the burnt DVD.  What bugs me is I was able to change to mono in Roxio version 7.5.

I click on "Capture Video" which takes me to the Roxio Media Import Screen.  Under quality my only options are Hardware mpg2 720x480 ... Hardware mpg2 320x240 ... Hardware mpg1 320x240 ... Hardware mjpeg 720x480 ... Hardware mpeg4 720x480 ... Hardware DX50 720x480.  The last three are avi.  Clicking on "Advanced" and then "Capture Filter" doesn't give me an option to change to mono (it's grayed out).

It must be some info that Media Import is getting from your device that is limiting these options.Have you updated the firmware on your device?Plextor's website has the latest.
Also have you tried capturing with the WinDVD creator software that came with the device? If so do you have the same problem?

The WinDVD creator software screws up my computer so bad I uninstalled it.  I think I might go back to Roxio version 7.5.  That worked fine.  My firmware is updated.
