I am trying to make a backup to a data DVD, before our MS department reformats my hard drive.

Backing up an admittedly large number of folders from "My Documents". I keep getting the error listed above in the topic title, "Error Accessing A File" [0x00000009] , when the burn operation starts.

I know the routine about long non-compatible file names, and have reason to believe this is the issue (earlier warnings when adding files to lineup). However, EMC 7 is offering no help. If it would TELL me which are the troublesome files, I would elect not to back them up.

If this error message means something else, I'd love some advice on that, too.

If it is a question of path name lengths,

Joliet Standards:

Filename – 64 characters max
Pathname – 128 characters (full path + filename)
8 subdirectories max
4gb file length limit

However, it would seem that EXACTLY what error 0x00000009 is, is somewhat hard to tell if you aren't a machine -

http://support.microsoft.com/search/defaul...amp;x=9&y=7

However, the general gist if I understand it correctly, is the burning program isn't finding what it expects to find, or isn't finding it where it thought it would.

Two thoughts come to mind: try making an .ISO file on your Hard Drive and then burning to DVD, or try using several CDs instead of 1 DVD. It may be there isn't space to process to the DVD.

[font=Verdana]I had the same thing happen. Funny thing that fixed it was selecting "DVD" in Roxio before burning. It was preset on "CD" standard 700MG. So, yes it didn't think I had enough space on the CD to Burn, and gave me the error message.

Hope this helps anyone else that gets this message: file error 0x00000009

If you set the number of discs to be >1 when you create discs in Creator Classic (same error for both DVD and CD), the program will hang after finishing the first disc. You have to use "End Task" to close it in Task Manager.

Is there a fix for this bug or is there a work around for this problem?

Thanks

Well, I am glad I have done some research on this issue. I have version 7.0 and have had problems with it since I bought it. I see from this form that it seems to still be a problem in version 9 and possibly 10? I was thinking it was probably time to upgrade, since I figured that Roxio has possibility fixed my issues with the product. Well I have seen this error “Error accessing a file.” (Is it to much to ask to give a meaningful message?) since I have bought this product. I understand that maybe my system or file name issues or path length etc… that may be causing the problem, but I would have assumed that this issue would have been resolved by now or at least more meaningful explanation of what the problem was? I bought the product to just do simple backups. Anyway, Roxio is like most publicly traded companies today they are more worried on what it takes to draw more people in instead of producing a good quality product.

Thanks everyone for the warning, I will look else where for a more reliable product.

I can't see spending another $80.00 for something that I already paid for that did not work and will probably not work with the upgrade.

Let's see - one poster from July 2006 who never gave any feedback or if they even tried anything, and another from Feb 2007 who did identify the problem and get things worked out.

That doesn't strike me as indicating it is a common problem. blink.gif

However, since you aren't giving any details of what you are doing, nor any info on your equipment, I assume you are just doing a rant.

Maybe your computer isn't up to snuff, especially since you said you had problems with EMC 7. blink.gif
