the largest resolution i can export with Videowave 9 is 720x576 with any of the three available codecs
but from what I've gathered I can get higher res with a different codec or something?
where could I get one to give me the resolution I and how to i make sure Videowave sees it?

Codecs won't help.
What resolution are you starting with? If you open Video Wave, can you select a new 16 by 9 project? If so, you probably have the higher definition available. when you go to output. When in MyDVD, and you want to burn a disc, you would need to burn an AVCHD or a Blu-ray file. I' don't think those are availble in that older version. That of course doesn't matter if you are just encoding files for your computer.
ALL DVDs except for those above are standard definition and are the resolutions you see.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Ya I'm not using any of the DVD stuff actually, just the video editing parts
But what you told me was perfect, now I can export in 1280x720 which is fine for me
