I've Installed EMC8 Deluxe and found it freezes My Computer for 20 minutes before autoplaying either a CD or DVD. I have two identical Gigabyte Technology DVD RW internal drives. I unin :) stall EMC8 and they work fine with the WMP or the OEM Nero. I installed EMC8 again with same problem. My PC tech that built it disconnected one of the two DVD RW's and the problem went away. Do I need to have two different manufactured DVD RW's so that Roxio's not confussed? I'm running PC -Cillin 2006 anti -virus with no problem. Would the rxfix cure it?

On your OEM Nero does it have InCD working? If so and you installed Drag to Disc they could be conflicting. You should only have 1 packet writing component installed at a time.Actually none would be better but only 1 is allowed.

In addition to what Terry said, PC-Cillin has been know to cause problems with the software, but I always thought it was only during the install.  Disable it, and see if it helps.  But dump the InCD, and try, first.

Thanks for the advice. I had EMC5 and knew of problems with D T D and I don't install it.( I just use Creator Classic). My Nero does have InCD loaded. I'll try shutting off PC Cillin. But again, I find it odd that there is no problem with the drive or My Computer freezing 20 minutes when I have one of the two identical internal writers disconnected!

What one do you disconnect and you have no problem?

Are the two drives set as cable select, or one as master and one as slave, on the same IDE channel?
Could you move one to another IDE channel?
How does Nero and EMC8 see the drives, Drive Instance ID ( Location)0/0, 1/1. and does device manager do the same?

Sorry, I would never have two identical drives on the same pc. Just to update the firmware one should uninstall one boot down disconnect one. Re-pin the connected one as master, boot up flash the firmware, reboot for the flash, uninstall that one, shutdown, unhook it re pin the other as master connect it up. Boot up flash that one, reboot for the flash, uninstall that one, shut down. Then re-pin both and reconnect both drives!
Even if the drives were on different IDE channels. I would uninstall one and disconnect it and flash one at a time.

 Thanks for all your advise. I reconnected the second DVD RW in the same spot,Slave, and the top one is the Master. Sure enough, the drives only operate by opening a progam like WMP, Sonic CinePlayer or Nero and then sellecting the source to run,ie, E or F drives in my case. Anyway, not to waste your time, I've scanned the last 8 monthes of posts on this great forum and I agree, You Are The Best Tech Support Sonic/Roxio has! My first guess of the disabling of rx filter worked. Remember, I'm running PC-cillin. The only negative side effect, as posted, WMP won't play audio on DVD play back.( I need to use Sonic CinePlayer). CD's work fine. All functions of autoplay are normal. Of course, I'm just getting started with EMC8. I've got more archieving of the kids S-VHS to DVD editing and fun with LP to CD. Oh, my kids want to know if there is a converter from itunes, that they paid and downloaded to our home PC ,to mp3, so they can load up a non-ipod music player?( iriver)
Thanks again,Bruce, Terry, cdanteek and all who contribute to these forums! :D

BB,as far as ITunes goes the easiest way is to get a CD/RW and burn the tracks to a cd with ITunes. Then once you have them on a cd you can turn around and rip them back to your harddrive in whichever format you wish (mp3 probably) to be loaded to another player.

Thanks Terry. That sounds like a simple solution. We'll try a sample now.

You are welcome, Bird.  These forums are a wealth of information, but a lot more was lost when they changed boards, back in January.

bigbird737,

I have seen where right click open in my computer, launches Sonic CinePlayer.
I would ditch the auto play function in windows. In control panel,Administrative Tools, Services. Search for IMAPI CD Burning Com Service and highlight it, right click properties, on the general tab, startup type, set to manual.
Disable In CD in msconfig, and reboot. Check the box don't show me again on startup.
See if your drive recognition woes are better.

Play a DVD in WMP and go to file , properties and see what audio codec and video codec is used.
