I burned a DVD. It has 4 menu options. The sound works in 3 of the 4. When I play the 4th menu, sound is in the first 10 minutes and then drops. After it drops, the only time that you hear sound is during the transitions and then it drops again. The picture is fine.

Any suggestions? I'm under a deadline.

I hate these technical glitches. What I hate even more is the DVD taking 10-12 hours to burn and when it's finished, I find that the sound is screwed! :)

Does anyone think I should call tech' support in regards to this problem? Do you think they are efficient in helping or do you think they will drain ($$$$) dry?

I think the problem is do to the media. Does the sound drop out happen on both the Mac and set top DVD Player or is it just the set top DVD player?

If it only happens on the DVD Player connected to your TV, then it is the media. I suggest trying a different brand, and also burn the disc slower. That may help.

Try making a DVD with just that 4th video. If it still doesn't work then the problem is with that particular source video and Toast. In that case the question becomes "How is that video any different from the others?"

You mention encoding so that means the source video required encoding. Was it from iMovie? How was it brought into Toast? In the Roxio Converted Items folder (by default located in your Documents folder) there should be the encoded files that Toast needed to create. (Don't quit Toast or the files get automatically deleted unless you change Toast's preferences to keep those files). Do you see both an .m2v and .ac3 file in there?

Are you familiar with Toast's Custom Encoder settings window? Are you willing to do some troubleshooting?
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks. I will try that.

But as for the current situation, the video came from iMovie. After the video was edited, a .mov file was created. I then imported that into Toast 7.1. The items in the Roxio Converted Items folder have already been deleted, but I do believe I saw the .m2v and .ac3 files.

I usually do the automatic encoding and have never used the custom encoding. But sure, I'm willing to troubleshoot. I appreciate any assistance you can give.

i recomend, if yhou havent allready, is to use imove and save the video as 1 big dv file. i usually have issues if im using an imove source file which just links the differant raw files. Make sure you have enogh HD space, dv can take a quite alot of room (approx 2 gigs for every 10 minutes)

Choose QuickTime in the iMovie Share menu. Choose Expert Settings. Choose Export: Movie to DV Stream.

But this shouldn't be necessary. You mention a .mov file created by iMovie. This suggests you already exported the movie as a file outside of the iMovie Project file. The "official" way to bring an iMovie into Toast is to either drag the iMovie Project file itself to the Toast Video window. The way I do this is via the Toast Media Browser. Click Movies with the top button of the browser and a list of iMovie project located in the default Movies folder appears in the lower window. Choose the one you want and drag it to the Toast window. You can preview the iMovies by selecting them in the Video window and clicking the Edit button. Choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu and then mount the disc image to play it with DVD Player to hear if the audio is intact after the encoding.

Is there anything different in this iMovie from the others that worked? For instance does it have chapters or multiple sound tracks and the others do not?

Thanx. I'll try it if this next burn doesn't work.

Nothing is different in this iMovie as opposed to the others.
