I bought my Sony TRV330 because it is dual system, so I have used it to playback my old Hi8 tapes for capture via Roxio. I stopped doing that a few years ago when I was using earlier version of Roxio - got too busy.
When I resumed recently I found Roxio 2010 is fine with my Digital 8 capture, can be left unattended to record a whole tape. But with my Hi8 tapes, capture gets interrupted after 5 - 10 seconds for no apparent reason. It is not even doing it at a scene cut, so it does not seem to relate to recognising cuts (which I'd not expect anyway). Result is very labour-intensive capture of multiple fragments, that are no use in any case because scenes get cut partway through.
Does anyone know how I can force Roxio to capture a whole tape without interruption? Thanks!

There are 3 ways to hook up your camcorder to a PC, which One are you using???

The Hi8 may be a problem due to poor signal. If recoded at anything but SP or just due to age or head condition of the camcorder… :(

Need to know more details on your hook up and what other options you have available to know what options we might suggest ;)

Thanks Jim for your reply... Sorry for omitting that detail: I am using i-link [also called "firewire], which I believe is the best option, preferable to the other option, USB. The Hi8 tapes were recorded in LP mode.

Yes, I do wonder about head condition of camcorder. The TRV330's heads have a well-known tendency to stick (giving a venetian-blind display effect), which occasionally requires a firm pat on the side of the camcorder. So YES, the TRV330 is becoming a bit tired.

Also, when playback is set to auto the TRV330 fails to recognise Hi8 - I have to set it manually to recognise the Hi8 tapes, which (of course) were recorded on an older camcorder. Therein may lie the real problem: the older machine's heads may have become misaligned with age. Needless to say, the old Sony Hi8 camera is now defunct.

I'm wondering about getting the TRV330's heads serviced, but will first upload the last of its Digital8 tapes before doing that, leaving just the Hi8 ones left to copy. Any other thoughts please? -VILARESTALL.

Yes I agree, 1394 is the Best way to go!

Couple more things…

You did not say if you had Win7 but IF you do, you need to set 1394 support to LegacyHERE
(ms wrecked 1394 in Win7 :( )

Do you have any head cleaner?

Did you try the old standby of Fast Forward the tape to the end, then Rewind?

Do you have any other way to Record it, such as to a DVD Recorder or something?
