Amarec Tv & Lagarith = Quality!

Question

While messing around with different codecs and settings with AmaRec TV, I came across the Lagarith video codec:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lagarith_Lossless_Video_Codec.htm

This codec lets you record lossless videos at any resolution the RDC hardware provides rather than just 720x480 being the highest with either the RDC software or the DV codec for AmaRec TV. I record the video at 864x480 and this means that when uploading to Youtube the video doesn't have any black boxing effects as the video is only 10 pixels (Youtube's 480p quality videos are at 854x480) smaller in length. This means that you don't need to go into the effort of having to resize or stretch the video to 854x480 at all! Here's the results that I get:

Just to note that the video records from AmaRec TV on this codec with no need to adjust the settings and I can get a stable 30fps without any frames dropped even on my crummy laptop!

(P.S. You could get better quality than this video but I simply recorded the video and then used Windows Live Movie Maker to edit and upload it as a way to see how the easiest and quickest way would look. Not really much difference considering it took no time at all!)

Hi superjake,

Lagarith is a very nice codec. Better then Huffyuv bur inferior in quality if compared with UT VIDEO CODEc (currently the best codec ever).

I use Ut Video on y all captures, included my AverTV HD.

For comparison:

COMPRESSION: Huffyuv < Ut Video Codec < Lagarith

QUALITY: Huffyuv = Lagarith < Ut Video Codec.

Try both and post your results.

UT VIDEO CODEC: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Ut_Video_Codec_Suite.htm

HUFFYUV: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/HuffYUV.htm

i use Shark007's FREE Codec

http://shark007.net/

But isn´t a codec. Its a codec pack for view files not to encode or record files.

I use K-lite Mega, because has encode and decode codecs (VFW and VCM).

FFDSHOW has built in some codecs (Huffyuv, DV, Mjpeg...) But X264, Xvid, Divx to record no.
