Hi All,

I need help I've created a 5 minute video using Adobe Premier CS5 and exported to MP4 in H.264 format. This file plays beautifully on my computer. Graphics and titles look crisp video plays smoothly. Once I burn to DVD using Creator the video turns to crap. (see image below)

Posted Image

I'm using:

Creator XE Blu-ray, Version: 10.1.291

My machine:
Dell Optiplex990
Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40 Ghz
8gig of RAM
Lacie Blu-Ray/DVD burner

I have tried using Roxio customer support to no avail. I've received some suggestions from support but they have not helped, there seems to be no way of responding to support suggestions. Support ticket #127059.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle

Creator XE Blu-ray, is not a Retail Roxio product, where did you get it?

Burning to a SD DVD Video is 720 x 480, it downgrades HD video to SD..

Some details please - computer specs for a start and also what app you are using

You are aware that XE suites are cut-down OEM variants and support is supposed to come from the vendor - what was it bundled with?

MP4 in H.264 format created in Adobe Premier CS5, is not 720x480 SD Video your burning in Creator XE.

Support for your Creator XE Blu-ray, would come from Lacie.

What other details would you require other that those listed under "My machine" in my initial post?

Yes I suspected that the XE software was a cut-down from a full version, but I would still expect it to render better results than I am getting.

Here is a start for providing details (link)

Are you burning s video disc or a data disc?   What settings are you using in Create DVD -- the disc authoring application?   Fit to disc  (default) will give you a lot of issues regarding display  sharpness.

Are you trying to burn a standard definition disc, an AVCHD disc or a blu-ray disc?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

The orignal content was shot in 720 x 480, the project settings were set for 720 x 480. I played around with some of the export settings and the MP4 in H.264 format seemed to render the best results.

The Roxio logo graces the program icon, the Roxio logo is used through out the interface and when one clicks on the "About this software" in the about menu Roxio by Sonic Solutions is listed. Lacie is a hardware manufacturer. Why would they support Roxio's software?

Are you going to answer my questions ?

Complaints like yours about OEM software usually causes people to become bored with the thread.

It was modified to Lacie's spec.  OEM is sometimes also called teaser software because it teases you into buying it - or something else.  Read this.

I'm burning to a video disc not data. Initially I used fit to disc but the HQ setting renders the same result. In the options dialog "Use Smart Encoding" is the default selection. This greys out any settings for SD or HD. I can select "Use Custom Encoding" but that just lets me set settings for SD and HD. It does not offer the choice to choose one or the other. Other than that I don't see any way of selecting SD or HD.

Silly me! I found a solution to my problem. I went to the start button then control panel and then selected Add/Remove Programs. I then uninstalled Creator. I then used Adobe Encore to burn my disk and it worked flawlessly.

Seems to me Roxio would be doing itself a favor if when bundling it's product with hardware it should make it so that its OEM software renders at least marginally satisfactory results. Or, at the very least, make available a functional product support website. If Roxio intended to entice me to buy the full program by bundling its crappy OEM software with my burner they are missing the mark. In fact, the opposite has happened. From now on I will eye all Roxio software with skepticism based on my experience with this introductory software.  :angry2:  They don't even offer a trial version of their flagship software. Probably because no one would end up buying it.

Now, that post WAS intended to be flip.  ;)

Chao!

As far as I know Adobe does not bundle any of their software with third-party hardware. And if they did they would require that the end product be of high enough quality to keep up their good name and brand. Just because Lacie whored the work out to the lowest bidder doesn't mean that Roxio had to take the deal, develop sub-standard software and then plaster their name all over it.

It wasn't free I paid money for the drive and the software.

As far as the Roxio software goes, your right, it doesn't work worth a crap.

If you buy a car the tires don't come free, they are included in the price. Such is the same for a software/hardware bundle. I once bought a new truck and got crappy Firestone tires with it. At least Firestone owned up and replaced the tires.

The tyres may be free - the stereo and air conditioning are optional extras. They may be in the demo model you saw but if you want them, you pay extra

You bought a piece of hardware - they bundled a piece of software in with it to get you started. If you want the full product, you BUY that.

MS Office is often bundled with new computers but that is both cut-down and time-bombed
