Just started using Easy Media Creator 8 Deluxe Suite with Video Wave (806B07I ENU). I've added some clips but there are no controls to play them! The "Getting to Know the VideoWave Window" topic in Help shows the full range of expected controls just under the Preview window but I don't have them! There is just a small blank space between the Preview window and the Production editor. The only way I can play a clip is by using the Video Trimmer feature, but of course, that doesn't help me see transitions from one clip to the next!

Where is my Play button!  Thanks.

See the picture below.  If you don't see that, you may have a problem with your video cardd.  List your system specs., similar to how I have mine in my signature.

The entire line that your arrow is pointing to is exactly what I don't see! Although there may be a problem with my video card, strange that each clip plays exactly as expected in the Video Trimmer. For what it's worth though, my system specs are:

PC: Dell Latitude D600
CPU: Intel Pentium M at 1.4 GHz, with 512 MB of RAM.
OS: XP Professional SP2
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radion 9000 AGP Video Card
DVD Burner: Sony DVD +- RW DW-Q58A.

For video work, it appears that your computer is below the minimum standards.  That may be the reason you are having problems.

Specifically, in what way is it below? It appears to me that my system far exceeds what is listed on the system requirements page. In any case, I'm not having a problem in the sense of having a video poorly rendered or choppy playback or distorted sound. Rather, a whole section of the GUI is simply missing! Even if I were on a five-old machine, I may not get much functionality, but the GUI should not be affected in any way!) (Any if I'm below the minimum standard, how is it that all my clips play perfectly well in Video Trimmer?)

That all depends on how it was programmed. We simply can not emphasize ENOUGH that Videowave and MyDVD depend a lot on DirectX 9.0c and the video drivers MUST support it. Just a quick scan at ATI's website shows that the Mobility Radeon 9000 is at least 4 years old and was most likely designed for an earlier DirectX.  The drivers may be DirectX 9 'compatible', but the chip simply can not fully support DirectX 9 because it was designed earlier.

If you read through the forum, you will find that most display problems can usually be solved by updating the video drivers and the latest DirectX (Jun 2006).

I'm installing directX from the link above. The strangest thing in my case is that my computer is new and I was able to do editing and had this play button before all the time... Will see if this installation will help... I wish it will work!!!

It doesn't wooooork...
Here are messages I am getting when i'm trying to open the video in the Roxio for editing

First Message:

My Roxio is working!!!! All I did is just reinstalled the program. Also I installed a Roxio update (from Jan 2011) that I got automaticaly when I openned the program, so I finally have a "Play" button!!! I am not sure what was wrong... But thank you for having a tech support!

You sure are lucky, you don't even have the same software.  Next time look in the Creator 2010 part of the froum; there are all kinds of "new" solutions there.
