Toast 7 Labels Each New Cd As Cherry Pink. Why?

Toast 7.1.3 is great, works fine on my Mac Mini with 10.4.11
Used to I could name each new CD. Now even though I give it a new name, it always records the CD as CHERRY PINK.
How can I change that?

That name is coming from the online CDDB and not from the CD itself. The first time you insert an unrecognized audio CD the Mac automatically searches the online CDDB for a disc that has the same number of tracks with the same track lengths. If it finds a match it fills that info in and writes it to the Mac's cdinfo database file. The only way to change it is to edit it in iTunes. Toast is not allowed to modify the cdinfo database when it creates an audio CD. Instead, it writes CD Text information to the disc by default. However, Macs don't read CD Text. At dougscripts.com there is an Applescript that can be run within iTunes to transfer the CD Text info to your cdinfo database. It is called "CD Text to cdinfo." You can use it if you don't want to manually edit the information in iTunes.

THANKS. Most of my recordings are voice audio from talks on the internet, rather than music and I use QuickTime Player
Also for music 90% of time I use QT Player albeit once in a while lTunes IF it's a multi-track CD i want to sequence through the songs.

After searching iTunes just now I find no place to change a disc name. How is that done?

To change the name of the album in iTunes, click on the existing album name in the left side panel and choose Get Info (keyboard Command+I). A naming window will appear. To change the name of the tracks click on a track and choose Get Info and then click the Info tab.

There are no albums in my iTunes left side panel
In the right panel there are two short songs.
iTunes is never opened in the recording process.
The audio information is recorded by WireTap Pro, saved as a QT file xxx.aifc
Then a blank CD is inserted in the FW CD/DVD recorder and TOAST automatically opens
Will attach one I just tested and it ended up with the CD named Cherry Pink
So what's next?? Where is that name. I do not find it in iTunes.

There is nothing you can do about this until after the audio CD is burned and mounted on the Mac. The only reason you're not seeing a generic "Audio CD" title for the burned disc is  an item in the online CDDB has the same length and number of tracks as your disc so the Mac OS automatically downloaded and wrote that to the Mac's cdinfo database file. The only way to change what the Mac is showing is to edit it within iTunes after the audio CD is burned and mounted. What you must do to change it is to insert the burned audio CD, open iTunes, select the name of the CD in the left-side panel of iTunes and choose Get Info.

does that mean the NEXT CD I burn will be blank and can THEN be named?
Obviously it does not change the name of the already burned Cherry Pink in the burned CD.

The name Cherry Pink never was burned to the CD. It is only on that one Mac's hard drive until you insert it into another computer that also seeks information for unrecognized audio CDs from CDDB. When you changed the information in iTunes the audio CD was no longer unrecognized so the Mac won't seek info from CDDB .

Look at it this way: The first time you insert any audio CD in any computer it is unrecognized and automatically triggers the search for a match from the online CDDB. The only way to prevent that search is to have the computer disconnected from the internet at the time you first insert that CD. This system works great for mass-distributed audio CDs but not so well for some homemade CDs that haven't had their info uploaded to CDDB. Anyone can upload info on a CD to CDDB and unfortunately some have chosen to do so even when they aren't distributing multiple copies. When you have a CD with one or very few tracks, it is easier for that CD to match something already on CDDB because there so few variables. So instead of seeing the generic "Audio CD" name and the "Track, 1, Track 2..." names you get misinformation downloaded from CDDB. If it happens with one Mac it will happen the same with any other Mac into which you insert the CD.

If you use iTunes instead of Toast to burn the audio CD iTunes updates the cdinfo database with the information you entered into iTunes before burning the disc. In this way iTunes is better to use for burning audio CDs than is Toast. However, that still only writes the info to that one Mac and it will show up as Cherry Pink when you put it into another. Also, iTunes doesn't write CD Text to the disc (which may not be a big deal to you if you don't have a CD player that reads CD Text) nor does iTunes have Toast's variety of mastering options such as crossfades.

If you're looking for who's to blame for this mess, it is the people who created the audio CD spec long before there were CD players installed in personal computers. They didn't have the foresight to provide a way in the spec to have data that's read along with the music. Sony came up with the CD Text workaround but it is not commonly used.
