I tried the hot fix http://tools.roxio.c...code_hotfix.exe and that does not fix the problem.
I have seen the exact same problem listed in the Community and it appears that no one has resolved.

Others things to look for are burner firmware updates and trying different media. If the error is taking place before it burns to disc and during encoding, make sure your hard drive is defragged and shut down all unnecessary programs while it's doing it's encode.

1) looked for firmware updates for video card & DVD and Windows could not find a later version of either.
2) tried different media manufacturer and same exact issue
3) used Videowave instead of slideshow assistant and same exact issue
When I hit the "burn" button the software uses MyDVD Express to burn the DVD. I started using MyDVD 4.x that came with my Dell and it quit working (very simular problem). I tried MyDVD 6.x trial version and it worked fine but when I tried to upgrade to 6.x it was not available and they shipped 8.x and it didn't work and had many bugs so I sent it back.
MyDVD 8x has gotten many bad review as I sure you are aware but Roixio Creatro 8 got great reviews but I didn't know that they are now the same company and looks like the bad rubbed off on the good.
What do I need to do to get it working???
Another data point: I can use the software to create a data DVD with no problems...DVD drive must be OK. DVD+R must be OK...so what's the problem with burning a Pix Slide Show??

1) finally found updated drives for my Matrox vid cards and it took me many hours to finally get then installed and working properly (but that's another problem and it's all mine)
2) deleted and reinstall EMC 8 and downloaded the fix as before
3) tried another simple 6 picture slide show in videowave
4) hit the burn buttom, saved the project, sent me to MYDVD
5) SAME ERROR "80004005 error while encoding movie" after a few seconds
Is there anyone out there that has a solution??
Tks

Your video cards are older than dirt. They may have been good 6 years ago, but they aren't now. Why did you put them in the good system that you have?

Does that card fully support DirectX 9c? Try updating that from the Microsoft web site. As grandpabruce indicated, the card is pretty old and may not support the most recent versions. The card was designed when DirectX 7 was the latest version but it may not support all the features of 9c. Go to page 29 and 30 of your owners manual.

You are 5 years and many versions behind by replying to this thread. Do you have the same hardware as the original poster? Did you really read the thread or just search for the error. The OP did not have the computer to run EMC 8. If you have a Mercedes, it won't run correctly on low octane fuel.
