The first project I'm trying to do with EMC8 is simply taking some dvr-ms files (recorded TV shows) and burning them to DVD so my daughter can watch her kids' shows when she wants.

I need to convert the dvr-ms files to MPEG, edit out commercials, then come up with a simple menu for her. It SEEMS like I can do all that within MyDVD, but the documentation also seems to say that I'm supposed to use VideoWave to edit the episodes.

Can't I just do all this within MyDVD? Am I missing something?

Yes, you can do all this in MyDVD. When you add the dvr-ms to MyDVD, select the button and 'edit movie' to edit out the commercials. You shouldn't have to convert the dvr-ms first. Just add it directly into a MyDVD project.

You should really use Videowave for more advanced editing.

Actually, it DOES require me to convert dvr-ms files for editing. Otherwise, your help was spot-on. Thanks!

Oops... yes, it does, but converts the file on the fly when you add it. All you have to do is tell MyDVD where to save the MPEG file.
