I have read a lot of posts on this topic, but I still cannot get it to work. It has worked successfully a few weeks ago, and I completed a production. But, for my second production I hve been unable to add movie clips to a new production. I am endeavouring to add AVCHD files of about 1 hour duration. As soon as I select the folder with the clips I get the error message. I have been able to add photos with no problems.

I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing

I have a Toshiba P750/02L with NVidia driver 267.44, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1.Running IE9.0.8112

Desperate for a solution.

Do some maintenance on your computer first.  get rid of unused applications, get rid of junk and temp files and defrag (frequently or continuously) .  Here is a link to some tools.
Use the navigation on the left to get to each category.  Be careful, I just read that download.com (cnet) is starting to try to get you to download browser and search helpers.  Watch the options that show up.

Are these the same movie clips you used in the first production?  If not, perhaps they have become corrupt some way.  Have you tried to use any of the old video files (only) in a new production?

I would bet that the the issue is resolved by the maintenance.  BTW, never use a registry cleaner - a stand alone, part of a program (link the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner) or as part of your anti-virus.  Too many people have had the over aggressive ones delete necessary registry items so the program doesn't work properly.

Are you making AVCHD discs or blu-ray discs?  That also opens other possibilities.for error.

Nice laptop; it is one that has a real graphics card and not a chip.   Normally laptop manufacturers modify the graphics card/chip for laptops because of power saving requirements.  Toshiba is very poor about updating any drivers.  You may want to go to nVidia to see if they have an updated driver for that card AND computer.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thanks for the reply. I used the cleaner, but same error message occurred. I defragged(although only 1% fragmented. Still same problem. I creaed a new production with the same files as the successful production - same error message again.

I ent to the NVidia site but they warned against updating from there and only recommend using updates from the manufacturers site. Went there but the site is not working properly.

So, I made a production successfully 3 days ago, but not now. Any other ideas??

What anti-virus do you have and does it have a built in Registry Cleaner? What else have you changed on your computer?  What updates?

Use Windows Restore (I hope you have that active) to roll back to where the program worked.   You should be able to work from the restore point.  If not, you are going to have to give us a lot more information about what happened in the last 3 days.

I have Norton Internet Security v18.6.0.29 which is a time limited trial version that came with the laptop. I also have AVG Freev10. Should I uninstall or disable one or both? I haven't changed anything else, except maybe windows auto updates. Is there a way of checking what changes have happened? Depending on your advice, I can then roll back to a restore point.
