I have several MPEG files about 500 to 700 MB in size. I would like to be able to trim off the end parts of them (I recorded on a video capture card and the recording ran too long) and save the remainder to burn onto a DVD. When I do edit them in VideoWave I have to re-render and the trimmed file is actually larger than the original file!
Is there any way to split or trim the MPEG file and not have to re-render them? I am not doing any fancy editing production work here, I just want to cut 15 minutes or so of unwanted video off the end of a file and have the quality be the same and the file size be proportionally smaller.

There are some 3rd party products out there that will do this but I don't know the names…

A lot of us simply edit the clip in VideoWave and save the VW Project (dmsm) without bothering to render.

Then in MyDVD, add the VW Project file (dmsm) instead of the actual clip.

As James said, not with EMC7.

If you just want to store the 500 - 700 Mb files until you're ready to make a final production, you could burn them to a Data DVD using Creator Classic.

As you're learning, not all mpeg2 files are the same and when VideoWave rerenders the files, it's probably making them DVD compliant.
