I am trying to capture video through the composite inputs on a Hauppauge WinTV88x Video Capture card, using EMC8. On the Roxio Media Import screen, the input is showing as 'TV Tuner' and when I select the card, I get the above 'Operation 'build'' error message. When I click on detail for the error, it says

Details: Failed to build preview graph

I suspect that if I could change the input from TV Tuner to Composite I could clear the error, but all the controls are greyed and don't respond. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I also have Pinnacle software and that works fine, so there's nothing wrong the card or the cables.

Can't find any info about this error.....can anybody help? Thanks.

You need to check the Hauppauge website for the latest drivers. Also make sure your video card drivers are updated and DirectX.

I have the WinTV PVR PCI II (26XXX) using Windows Media Center OS. I was able to get my working, but another user with the exact same card could not.

Your best bet is to use the WinTV2000 app from Hauppauge to capture. You can use the files captured with that software in Videowave or MyDVD 8.

Thanks for your reply Gary. All the installed drivers are up to date and the problem still persists. I can, as you suggest, capture using other software - in my case Pinnacle's Studio 9 will do the job - but I had wanted to solve the problem for two reasons - firstly because it is much more elegant to do an entire job from within one software package, and, secondly, because it is simply irritating when something doesn't work the way it should. I find it particularly annoying that it brings up an error message which has no obvious meaning and about which there is nothing in the help files or forums. But not to worry - I will use Studio 9 and see how things go with that, so thanks anyway.

if you search for similar problems (You don't even have to use the search tool, as its on the same page in the "EMC 8 - DVD and Video" menu :)),you may find this...
