Creator 2009 Will Not Open After Re-Install

I had a sick machine (there was a problem with MSVCR71.dll) which I fixed by running a restore/repair using acer/xp disc - since then Creator 2009 will install but gives me a problem message when I try to open it (message gives no problem codes).
So, I used the creator 2009 uninstall programme (linked from forum pages) after disabling start-ups and rebooting, then used the instructions on the complete uninstall guide (from forum pages) then I uninstalled the netframework (using dotnetfix) and re-installed netframework from the links on the microsoft dotnetfix page http://answers.micro...93030908 doing copious reboots and re-ainstalled creator 2009 (pesky netframework installing from the disc although a newer version is on the machine via the dotnetfix download page) and then I got a Programme install interrupted message so I followed the instructions from the forum paes and un-installed netframework 3.5, rebooted ran the creator clean-up tool etc etc and after another round of re-boots installed creator again, this time, there were no interruptions and the wizard finished "ok" but the same "problem" message arrived when I tried to start Creator 2009 again from the icon (but no problem code). I then went back and repeated the whole thing, but this time I copied Creator 2009 to the hard drive and when re-installing, did it from there. Same result. After all that, I gave up, re-enabled the start-ups and turned my anti-virus back on. Microsoft updates are up to date.
Any ideas, wise ones ?

Did I miss what the problem message was? I understand that there was no problem code.

The message was " has encountered a problem and needs to close" - no indication of what the problem was nor a problem code, simply that Creator 2009 had "encountered a problem" and needed to close.
Trouble with Creator 2009 is that there is no troubleshooter ...
Thanks

Backontrack programme (bundled with the Creator applications) works ok - but Creator 2009 itself (i.e. what I've got it for) keeps banging up the message "has encountered a problem and needs to close" without specifying what the problem is.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

What I find annoying is that I only use the computer to record and edit sound and vision - I do everything else on a different machine. But Creator doesn't like the set-up for some reason (would help if the window that opens to tell me Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close, gave some indication of what the problem is/was).
Thanks to all who with input - how I long for days of a reel to reel tape recorder and a razor blade !

I remember those. I was prepraing tapes for a dance group. I was just as frustrated with the equipment then.
