OK I used to be able to make DVD's, both of photo slideshows and video taken with my camcorder (seperate discs, not both on one). I began having problems with DVD builder crashing when I tried to add titles.

Due to a hard drive crash, a new hard drive and clean install of windows XP Pro has been done, along with EMC 7 - upgraded to version 7.1.1.189.

And if anything's it's worse. Auto edit with CineMagic and Guided edit with story builder just open and crash straight away. DVD Builder crashes the moment you try to open any media or add titles.

So do I desert to Nero or is there an answer?

Machine specs

Intel P4 3.2ghz
1Gb RAM
About 300GB combined disc space 3/4's empty
Ati Radeon 256mb Vid card
Onboard sound.

Hi, Stu.  Try downloading and installing this file.  It worked for me when I had similar problems to yours.  Even if it does not fix your problem, it should not cause any additional problems.

In addition to what Merv said, don't use Cinemagic.  It is extremely limited in what it can do.  Use VideoWave, and do all the editing yourself.  You have a ton more flexibility.

Well downloading that file now causes everything to halt with an error

The instruction at "0x0299415b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be written.

That includes videowave

I have a friend who's had a message or two about "...the memory could not be "read"".
He's had no problems with anything, just a message or two once in a blue in the "event viewer".
I guess I ought to pass this link on to him?

thanks

OK no problems with memory and after two trouble free years and things start to go wrong when the file was downloaded... I think the file had caused some problems.

Gonna uninstall Roxio - it's turned into a pile of poo.

Some of the folks here will try to help you get the software up and running, but if you inclined to dump it, so be it.

Or, if the problem is the burner is getting ready for it's trip to that Great Recycling Bin in the sky, Nero won't do any better with it.

Have fun on the Nero discussion Forums ...   :)

I started having the same problem. Nothing in DVD Builder will open or work - it says "production error." Removed and reinstalled the software - no change. I noticed that I can't delete everything, even by going through the registry. The new install still remembers the projects. Something's gotten corrupted and It just started. My hunch its a virus.

There's a form for it, not run by Nero. The good, the bad, and the ugly, of that software are discussed there, with user input!
But no post disappears or gets locked, for Nero software bashing, only violation of forum rules.
Even the software Roxio is brought up on a occasion, in that forum! Roxio employees , do answer post's on it!

The fact that it is not hosted by the subject makes a difference.

Are you running IE Explorer beta 7? I was and that is when my problems with DVD Builder in EMC 7 started. Try removing IE beta in Control Panel. See my new post under the DVD topic.
