I need help fitting avi files onto a dvd

Hey all;

I was wondering if their is a way to compress an avi file that is too large, in order to fit it onto a dvd. Or, is their a way to "split" said file in two, and burn it onto two seperate dvd's?

The best app for splitting/joining AVI files is D-Vision.
