[emc8 newbie]

I just bought the EMC Suite 8. Been using version 6 but wanted the new features. First thing I tried was to create a slideshow w/ music. After adding it to a MyDVD project, the view area has a black screen. I try to preview the project which opens another window that looks like a remote control. Pressing play does not do anything. I tried the other keys as well. Need help or I may have to go back to version 6 since I need to finish this project in less than 2 weeks.

90% chance that your computer's video arrangement is not currently sufficient for this program. Post your computer profile.

V8 requires much more from yor video processor than any previous version and if it is not up to snuff, it will give you the types of problems you are seeing. First update the drivers to your video chips/card. If it an ATI card, upgrade to the highesrt number in the 80's series. Some people have had problems with the 90" series. You can get new drivers from your computer manufacturer, from the company who made your chipset/card or from nVidia or ATI directly.

SKNIS, thanks for your reply . I'm not next to the laptop but have this info fr when I ordered it.
Dell Inspiron 6000 Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB); Memory 512MB Shared DDR2 SDRAM 1 Dimm; Video card Integrated Intel® Media Accelerator 900 Graphics; Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Do I have the min installation requirements?

You are near the minimums and it will run but slowly. Update your drivers; Dell is usually very good about posting them. Also do a search for MCE on this board and you'll get some other useful information.

I think that this is the right update dated July 2006. Double chack to make sure it is the right one and follow the directions for the update. Take a look at the other updates located here.

I did update the driver. I am now able to preview my project. Thanks, SKNIS.
I then burned it to DVD. The DVD wouldn't play on the laptop nor on my DVD player. I think I read in one of the threads to create an ISO file first. What do I use to play it?

Once you burn the .iso to your hard drive, then you copy it to a DVD with disc copier.

I need advice. I still haven't figured how to create a DVD with EMC 8. Since I need to start & complete a project pretty quickly, I was thinking of uninstalling EMC 8 for now. I was planning to load version 6 that came with the Plextor external DVD writer that I had been using with my old pc. Are there any EMC 8 uninstall 'guidelines' I should know? Or is possible to load version 6 without uninstalling EMC8?

Did you burn an .iso to your hard drive. You do this by clicking on burn, uncheck burn to disc and check burn image file. Once the .iso is burned, open disc copier browse for .iso put blank media in burner and click copy. I think you should be able to do this fairly easily. Post back after you have tried.

Thanks Patty for insisting I try to burn a .iso file. I do have a DVD now that plays on pc and DVD player...Yeah!!

I just selected a few pictures with music to test EMC8. I used the slideshow assistant and sent it to MyDVD. The pictures were not too clear and the slideshow does not occupy the whole screen. There was a black border around the picture. I read in one of your suggestions to one of the threads to use Videowave.

I will be adding video to the project in between still pictures. Is it still better to use Videowave for this kind of project?

It is always better to use videowave to compose your projects whether it is just a slideshow with pictures only or video and picture combo.. Videowave is for putting the the projects together and editing, it is far more flexible and MyDVD is for creating the menu and burn it to a DVD.(authoring) I am glad you got the .iso burned and copied to a DVD. Some people seem to have problems with slideshow assistant. I would create in Videowave then save it. Open MyDVD and add it there, there will be an option to add movie(I think that is the term, v8 is on another computer so I can't check just now.)
