My video project has an intro movie created in videowave and saved from there (exported to video) in Roxio's native MPEG format.  When I add that movie to my main project in MYDVD the movie will preview just fine when you click on it in the design view, but when I attempt to burn, during the encode process the preview window for that part of the project shows only the word "MPEG" on a gray background.  All other parts of the project encode just fine.   When I play the final burned DVD the intro movie only has audio.. no video.   The rest of the project burns fine.  Why isn't the video staying with the MPEG intro movie?

The gray background with the words mpg means that the video you added is already DVD compliant and does not need to be rendered again.  

You have some other issue.

There's a video issue as well Steve "..the intro movie only has audio.. no video.."

I think what is happening is that it is being added in MyDVD without being given a menu buttom. That does cause problems if there are two or more videos added.

Better to combine in Videowave and export that to MyDVD

No.  An intro movie will start playing as soon as the disc is put into the player.  

From Video Wave, what mpg2 format did you select?  You should be selecting "mpg2 for DVD, best quality".  and letting that encode.  You can then add it as an Intro mpvie.  

How much video are you trying to put onto a single layer DVD?  Anythign more than 1 hours will degrade the quality.  After about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, you may see both degraded quality and other quality issues (skipping/black screen.)

I am assuming that you are using standard definition video rather than high definition and that you are selecting both NTSC (for the US) and 16 by 9 display,

What is the original source of the video that you are editing?  What format and what bit rates?

The imput sources is MPEG off an NTCS DVD.   I'm not even getting to butning it to DVD when I see the quality degrade... I see it if I do a video export direct to a file.  

SO.. what settings should I configure to end up with no loss in quality from source to destination?

If it's a commercial DVD (even an unprotected one) it is almost certain to run over the one hour limit of a standard DVD-R

Commercial discs are manufactured by a different process and can take more data (time duration) than a 'home-made' one so exceeding the one hour will produce a quality loss

I answered you above - "mpg for DVD, best quality" is the best you can do for a video file to be put onto a DVD if time is not a factor.  

Play the mpg2 file with the free VLC player to see the quality.  If it not to your liking then you have a different problem; probably witrh your hardware.

Yes commercial disc's are pressed not burned. The reason they get more than one hour at no quality loss is they use better variable bit-rate encoders. Instead of Roxio's constant bit-rate of 9 plus megabytes a second. That is what limits your single sided DVD to one hour best quality.

I'm guessing there are big signs all over the ROXIO support center proclaiming  "It must be your hardware".   A nice plan .. but in  my experience.. .rarely if ever the cause of problems with Roxio's products.

Four very experienced users disagree with you.  Why post if you are not going to listen to what people say?  

Please answer the question (you don't seem to like ot do that)  Is the video off a commercial DVD?

It is a Wedding DVD ... from Caesars Palace.  So.. I don't know if that qualifies as "commercial".. .but the section I want is only 9 minutes long... so that would seem to eliminate the space issue...

I would guess that the original company that did the DVD put some kind of protection on it.  Did they give you a price list for extra copies.  That is often a sign that the disc was protected  - same as a watermark on a local "commercial" wedding photographer.

Are you getting any notification that the disc was protected?  You would normally get that message. The program would normally just not do anything with that.

We are still ad an impasse since the disc may or may not be protected.  You have the file on your computer?  Try using the third party video converter to convert the mpg2 file you got off the disc to a more standard mpg2 file and try using that.  There are a lot of video converters available for free.  I like "Any Video Converter" but you may want to try a different one.  

It is common for some file that are supposed to be standard really no being standard.  For example a lot of mov files taken by digital image cameras need to be converted for Video Wave to work with them.  mov is a supported format,

Open Video Copy and Convert with this wedding DVD disc in a drive, choose DVD Video Copy tab and the correct drive in the source window.

Do you see Protected Disc?
