If I have committed a faux pax, please accept my apology, but after some searching on this site, I kind of gave up and had to ask.

I'm a new user of EMC 8 (used only CD creator 5 before). I have a HP Pavilion 1.7 gig, 1000 gig RAM, a new LiteOn External 160P6S burner. Just downloaded the lasted firmware. I'm using Dvd43 with Maxell DVD+R 4.7 medium (testing said manufactured by Ricoh).

I have had only minor difficulty backing up a non-copyrighted movie less than 4.7 mb. Worked great. With a larger movie, I followed suggestions on this site to save .iso file to hard drive (worked great). Tried to burn and DVD copy said it was compressing the movie, and went about halfway before the following error:

Unspecified error (0x130x000a)
details showed: write error: medium error 03/0C/00

After reading more suggestions, I used the video compilation option and was able to select only the movie instead of extras, started it up and it started off great, then died at 3 % and gave the same error message.
Anyone have suggestions? Do I have cruddy blanks?

Bad media could be the problem and it's easy to find out. Also make sure your burner is using the latest firmware.

Thanks, Beerman. Hope N'awlins is great right now.

Ok...I have tried several search strings for testing for bad media haven't found what I'm looking for. Is there a test in EMC8?

N'awlins is fighting to come back but we still need help....thanks for thinking about us.

What brand of media are you using---Maxell? Definitely not one I use. Best way is to try a different brand. Sometimes it's not the media. Sometimes a drive cleaner helps if the unit is old. It did work before but if the unit is old, it could be going bad. This is hard to tell but trial and error is the only way I know of.

Thank you. It's a brand new LiteOn external drive with the newest firmware. I have been using Maxell (manufactured by Ricoh). I'll try to pick up a different brand of media.

Thank you for the help!

Thanks for the suggestion. I managed to get into Houston to buy some more media, and bought some double layer DVD+R that worked well. It was more expensive, but worked like a charm. It was also on the list of media recommended by Lite-On.

I also got talked into a 50 pack of HP DVD+R media by a C####it City clerk who claim "it's the best, everyone likes it" that doesn't work worth a darn. Got error messages on each of the first 5 blanks. :)
