I recently had a co-used ask me to burn a folder of files to a CD and close the session. I used my installed copy of Roxio Creator 9 (Help shows it to be "Roxio DE V3.2.52c") to burn the sub-directory of files to a CD as a Disk at Once (Closed Session). Upon completing the write, I used tools to look at disk info. It reported one session that was closed. I then used Windows File Manager under XP-Pro to look at the CD-Rom properties. It reported no free space as I expected it to. Upon passing the CD to the co-user, then put it in their drive and examined it using Windows File Manager (under XP-Pro also)and it reported a large amount of free space. They then opened Roxio V10.3 (Help reports as Roxio V10.3)and examined the disk. It allowed them to drag, drop, and write additional files to the CLOSED SESSION cd! When they brought the CD back to me stating that I hadn't closed the session, I repeated my prior operations to examine properties (windows File Manager and Roxio Creator) while they watched. My system still reported the CD as a closed session with no space available. However, it also showed the added power-point file!. I could open and view the added file. I could not add anything to the session using my version of Roxio.
How did the newer version of Roxio accomplish writing a file to a closed session?
I thought closing a CD session loaded any remaining session tables with data to prevent any additional data from being added to the disk.
It appears that Roxio V10.3 can write to read-only media.
this is causing my security department some serious heartburn.
